Speculation about a 2-channel stereo version of Axiom’s eight-channel A1400-8 1400-watt digital power amplifier has been growing ever since the A1400-8 was first introduced.
The wait is over, and now the Axiom A1400-2 stereo power amp is available. Its power output is enormous: 350 watts per channel into 8 ohm loads and 700 watts per channel into 4 ohms (also 700 watts into 2 ohms). Owners of Axiom’s 4-ohm M80 floor-standing speakers will rejoice, as the full potential of the M80s extraordinary dynamic capabilities may now be realized. (In power-handling tests, the M80 v2s are able to absorb 700 watts per channel or more with music programming, enabling unprecedented, clean high-volume playback for music enthusiasts who want music reproduction at real-life levels.)
The new stereo A1400 resembles its eight-channel cousin in virtually all respects; it has the same chassis, internal components and power supply but fewer amplifier output channels. It accepts balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA-jack inputs as well as studio ¼-inch phone connectors. Like its home theater brother, the A1400-2 is essentially unclippable; i.e. it will produce its maximum output but won’t degrade the signal in doing so.
