I think what he's implying is wanting to change the volume of the sub independent of the other speakers. I think that would be easier while watching a movie rather than getting into the receiver menu and bumping up the sub there.
Strictly for calibration purposes, I would love to have a remote controlled sub.

Especially one that would have wheels and automatic sub-crawling features so can just let the sub wander around the house until it finds the best spot!
On a more serious note, I agree with the remote. My old crappy one had that and it was its only redeeming feature: I could shut it up from my seat.

You are correct, I just like to have millions and millions of remote controls (LOL). It would be nice to be able to ballance the sub and the reciever from one location. Not a necessity, just a nice to have.

speaking of the sub crawl- I basically only have a couple of options for sub placement in my room. I planned on deciding between the two with the good ol' sub crawl when my ep 500 arrived. unfortunately, one of the positions has been temporarily nixed by my girlfriend. She says that is where she wants the Christmas tree... looks like I will do the crawl after christmas and decide on placement then. As of now I know exactly where my sub is going- the spot she wants it

I believe my Rotel pre amp requires that I get into the menu to adjust the sub level, and since it doesn't have on-screen through components, I have to physically move to the pre amp to view the menu.
Because not all movies are recorded equally (the movie Titanic has huge LFE and needs to be turned down to stop my drywall from cracking) it would be nice to make minor adjustments to the sub during a movie with out having to leave my seat.
Maybe I could record a macro for my URC300 to do this. I'll check that out tonight.

What Mojo is refering to is that on the Denon's you can adjust each speaker channel gain with out going into the setup screens via the remote. The remote has a button that is dedicated to speaker selection and then to gain control. I didn't know about it till he showed me . So the Denons can already control the sub volume remotely, while watching a show.

What jakewash said. I didn't imagine for a second that your remote didn't permit you to change channel levels without entering the config menu.
I will say that although I am not too fond of my Denon's user manual, I absolutely love the remote. When I happened upon this Denon, I didn't even give the remote a second thought. But I couldn't possibly live without it now. I am very hesitant about going to a different brand ever again just because I love the remote so much.

Ok, I managed to program a macro on my URC300 to control the sub main sub level, but it takes 2 buttons to do it, one to activate the config menu and the 2nd to up or down. Much better than it was. But I still want a USB IR addition for the EP500.
