Logic was take away our guns and let the criminals overrun us. The honest person would comply, but not the criminal. We would be overrun by over confident criminals. And the government wants to help them. End result would be 1000 times worse than an occasional nut job random shooting.
Total power by governments breeds Excessive corruption and control. Removal of guns will help promote that also. Unfortunately, our society breeds an unlimited number of immoral nut jobs. Therefore the government thinks it has to step in and save us from ourselves.

I wouldn't personally own a gun, but I'd hate to take the option away from others. How about if we were all required to serve in the military, giving us all adequate training with them as well as basic self-defense so a gun would be a less likely first resort? While I'm not sure how the next world war will manifest itself, and whether guns in the hands of civilians will make a difference, I think we can all agree it's only a matter of time before one happens, and I do think there's plenty of potential for a truly oppressive government. Again, I'm not convinced guns in the hands of civilians by itself is going to make the difference, but it's also hard for me to see a lack of familiarity as proper preparation. But I'm just rambling. I've never given it serious consideration, because as I've said, I'm in no rush to own one.

I don't own a gun. I've served 4 years in the military, but I wouldn't let that qualify as responsible ownership. All they did when I was in was drill "Kill Kill Kill them bastards" into my brain. Not a good thing.
But for those to own a gun, need a good class, and psychological evaluation, that's got a time limit on it, where you have to take it again after so many years. Also, all guns should be kept locked up, so psycho family members can't gain access to them. Not a key lock, or a combo key and combination lock.

And so we have strangers attacking us with bombs now, and the government wants to take away our guns? I don't see the logic in that. Crazy people shoot innocent people, government solution? Take away guns from innocent people. Crazy people blow people up with pressure cookers, government solution? Close down all KFCs... Just go to 2:12 in this video about KFC Pressure Cookers You don't think so? Just wait and see. The government can do some pretty stupid things.
