dont know why it happens, thats just what it sounds like. like i said it was more of a clicking sound like dominos falling. maybe it is something in the soundcard turning on and off. maybe at 20 hz the soundcard sees the wave as a DC voltage offset instead of an ac wave. not sure. this is on a creative labs audigy card, flavor of the month purchased about 2 years ago.
how about you download the free software, generate a sub 20 hz tone, and let us know what kind of sound comes out of your computer . maybe the software is flawed ? at 20 hz per socond it wouldnt be too hard to count the pulses of a one second duration visually on your monitor ?
i spent about 5 minutes downloading the app and being sure it did what i remembered it did. i think it would have uses when trying to find the sweet/flat spot for your sub in your room. as the avia disk i have will sweep the low tones, but doesnt just play a low tone steadily.
i do think it is good advise not to overheat the coil though.
