51 huh? I remember back when I was 51: that's when I realized that the light at the other end of the tunnel was.........that uncoming train!!

It really started picking up for me at about 55!

The time went by even faster, followed by the teeth, the hair, the heart, you know, stuff like that.

But not other things, not yet!(I'm half Italian, the wife is still )

My ears still work fine too(other than when I take my heart medication and get chemically induced tinitus, so I have a choice......)

But there is a bright side:........

The nervous system.....

It fails too, so that things that normally cause pain aren't quite as bad!!!

See, things aren't quite as bad as they seem, I'm sure you'll be able to retire soon and enjoy your "Golden Years"! And if you're really lucky, perhaps one of your kids may give you a few Grandkids to raise, just to keep you from getting bored!!

Life IS good!

Me, I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait until I can start sending around emails claiming my generation was perfect and those damn kids ruined everything!

And you'll be right!

I don't believe anyone said their generation was perfect. And if you think you won't resent the world changing in ways with which you're not happy, it is my sincere opinion that you're mistaken. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on our point of view), I won't be here to find out if I'm right.

And the wise old man manages to make the young whippersnapper feel like a cad.

My apologies, Ken. You are NOT a cad. You're just justifiably tired of your generation being blamed for things. The truth is, life is a continuum. IF you're generation screws things up, it will be because, the generation before you did something wrong. And If they did something wrong, it's because my generation failed them in some way.

When I was only a little younger than you, I honestly believed that in my lifetime MY generation was going to end poverty, and reduce crime to the point of insignificance. Whoops! Wrong again! The sad truth is that, in some way, every generation fails the ones who follow, and, ironically, consider their lives to be infinitely better than those of younger generations.

My brother and sister are a half generation older than I (7 to 10 years or so). The think the 50s were perfect, and they hated the 60s. Being a child of the 60s (kinda), I try to get them to understand that if the 50s were perfect, the 60s wouldn't have happened. The 60s were a rebellion against the inequities, and failures of the 50s. So if they hate the 60s, blame the 50s for it. They don't see it that way.

Sorry. I'll get off my soapbox. Wrong place.

Very nicely said Jack!

To me, that social rebellion was about young people who got sick and tired of the way society turned a blind eye to the social injustice and hypocrisy of not only the 50s but the previous half century.
