I am loooking to get preamp-processor for my system. I have no desire for more than 5.1 HT or SACD or DVD-A ability, which both preamps lack. I play music and HT 50/50 and occasionally play vinyl. The Sunfire would cost about 150 dollars more, barely in my price range. Which one would you recommend and what do you think I give up by not going with the other one? Right now I have M-60 and with a Bohlender-Graebner center. Soon I will be upgrading my surrounds, thinking of Mirage omnisats or omnisat micros, M3ti's. All suggestions welcomed.

Hey Eddie,
Board sage 2x6spds adores his Sony (I believe it is that same model). You might wish to search for his comments.
The Axiom surrounds are really wonderful. I would strongly encourage you to consider QS4 or QS8's for your surround speakers. They may seem a bit more expensive than the Mirage, but I am thrilled and amazed by my QS8's.

I don't have experience with either of those processors, but I've heard the Sunfire called "over priced for what you get" numerous times.
I too have to strongly suggest you think about the QS series surrounds. Bar none the best surround speaker I've ever heard.
So I say, save the few bucks, and get the Sony, and put that savings into the QS surrounds.

If you listen to music 50% of the time how come you don't want to try out SACD and DVD-audio?
I am really enjoying these technologies even if they aren't going to last. It really is a new experience compared to stereo music.
Just curious.

Hi eddieg
I have 2 HT systems, both using separate processors, a 5.1 with a champagne Sony TA E9000ES and a 7.1 system using an Integra DTC 9.4. I paid a bit under $2000 for the Integra and about $400 maybe 500 for the Sony. The Sony is an outstandingly good processor. It is extremely musical ... just a great sounding piece of equipment. I think the Sony is as good as the Integra for 5.1 HT or 2/2.1 music.
Enjoy the Music. Trust your ears. Laugh at Folks Who Claim to Know it All.
