That's saying a lot! I've heard how you like to abuse, er I mean "test" subs.

Craig is in the clear on this one. At least I think he is. It's BigJohn you gotta worry about. Those pink grills and rambunctious port abuse is rather frightning. hehe

I have to think the DSP logic would make the EP500/600 much more "idiot proof" than most subs.

Getting back for a moment to one of the opening questions; the funky bass at the THX intro and the scrolling prolog.....
....Yup....I noticed that it wasen't a standard sound either. There is indeed something malmixed during those parts of the flick on my copy of the DVD as well
Back before I put(Axiom)spikes on the bottom of my home cobbled sub, it would attempt to walk into the wall during those unusual scenes!
...as well as others .....

I e-mailed Alan Loft on this very subject, i.e. overdriving the ep600 (in my case)to the point of self destruction since I am just learning the limits of this fine piece. I would hate to learn retrospectively how not to set it up. Alan advised me that I could set the gain to the eleven oclock position without fear of damage. That the dsp would limit the output when it sensed distortion.
I have used this setting for several weeks now without sign of damage.

That explains that cracks in the sidewalk in front of my house!

Wow, I've never had my 600 above the 8-9 o'clock position and I most often find myself turning the dial to just a quarter up from nada on the volume. I'll be moving it into a larger room within the next few weeks so maybe then we'll see if it needs to have a little more volume.

Hi,
The DSP in the EP500 and 600 is programmed with data on the maximum voice-coil excursion permitted before damage would occur as that relates to power output and distortion. Hence it will produce its maximum output at our predetermined levels of distortion and go no louder, no matter how much you crank up the level. So you can't damage it by overdriving it.

Thanks for that Alan! Now I won't worry so much when I see War of the Worlds the first time.

I was gettin' to feelin' pretty low.... what with seein' all you 500 and 600 owners runnin' your subs down around 8,9,10,11:00 positions when I've been runnin' my sub at 11:00 all along.
Then I looked at the photos' of the 500 and 600 amps(very stylish and attractive, by the way)and I realize that while my amp has the gain dialed from 6:30 to 5:00, youse guys run .......
