Since this thread originally concerned the price increase and tomorrow is the big day and my talks with blown302 have all been centered around my need to replace my bookshelf M22s with a good pair of tower speakers I would like to jerk this thread back to its original content for just a moment in the hope that someone will have something constructive to say. I know I don't need floorstanders in my little living room world, but I have a desire to do so. After reading about the price increase, I got to thinking that maybe, just maybe I should open my considerations to some other brands. Sorry about the blasphemy. I am considering something from the Polk Audio RTI line as well as the PSB image line. I have asked a similar question over at the Club Polk forum. The reply I got there is that there isn't an Axiom speaker made that can touch the Polk Audio RTI line, something I doubt very much. I'm not trying to start any kind of war, because I like my speakers, but I think it's about time for the upgrade. The question I'm asking myself is will I be satisfied with the M60s @$900/pair or will the Polk Audio or PSB image line at roughly the same amount of cash be just as satisfying?

I finally made the move to buy the 80-500 7.1 system, I did not have all the money for it before the price increase so I put 10% down and will pay the rest in a week or two. They where kind enough to give me the lower price. I have the Denon 4306 and I would like to know if anyone here has one and if I could get any advice? Thanks for any help.

Bruce, the first thing that pops into my mind, while reading your post, is "If you liked your M22s, you will DEFINITELY "be satisfied" the M60s." I initially had M22s, which I liked very much, but felt I wanted "more." I switched to the M60s and was very pleased with the change.
Since I've never heard Polk or PSB speakers, I can't speak to the Polk vs. PSB vs. Axiom thing. Giving you the best advice I can, I'd say get as much information as possible about all 3 brands, try to sift out the "my speakers are better than everybody else's" BS, listen to the little man inside, and make the best decision of which you are capable. Then sit back, listen to the music, and be happy.
(Sorry! I know that philosophical rant isn't much help, but speaker preference is totally subjective. )

jimmie,
Welcome! And congrats on the order. You have ordered a great system.
Your 4306 will drive your Axioms with no trouble. The manual and set-up are tedious, but take your time and you'll get through it. Plenty of Denon owners on board. One or two with the 4306. Ask any question!

I agree with Ajax about liking the 22s.
The best thing is the 30-day trial. Get them ordered. Test at home. Go listen to the Polks and PSBs. Return the 60s if not satisfied.

There's all kinds of good speakers out there, but if the Polk RTs are the ones I heard at Circuit City a while back, the guys on the polk forum are smokin' crack.
The LSi 15s that I heard were very nice, but the RTs had boxy, muddled mids, decent bass and your typical un-offensive rolled off tweeter. At least that is how I remember them. Could have been the room, material, etc...
I had M60s in a 14x14 bedroom and they were positively fat and rich in that environment. Certainly more speaker than necessary, but they did sound good in there.
I think your taste in music and typical listening level should probably determine which speaker is best for you.

I would probably put Axiom #1, followed by PSB then Polk. I did not listen to Polks but I did listen to PSBs before buying the Axioms. The PSBs were quite nice, with even more bass than the M60s, but I didn't feel they had the same clarity or "balance" as the 60s.

I agree with John on the batting order. There are many threads on this forum and AVS, that favor the Axioms over the RTi lineup. We can tell you a thousand times littleB, until you audition them for yourself, you'll never now.

After much debate on getting the QS8's - the price increase definately put me off. The reasoning is the return shipping if I didn't like them.
I bought a pair of Mirage Omnisat V2's instead at a local shop and could not be happier with them.....
