With those combo XLR-1/4inch inputs it is possible to connect the RCA pre-outs on standard Home AV receivers. You just create an unbalanced RCA to 1/4-inch cable. Since the distance between your receiver and amp is so short, the unbalanced cable will be a fine alternative to a balanced cable.

Is there a reason why there isn't a digital in (optic or coax)? It seems to me that if you have a digital out from your preamp, you could have a digital in on your amp. This way, the signal could stay all digital....but of course then the digital signal would have to be converted to analog within the amp.
So I guess the next big step for axiom is to speakers with digital inputs and an amp with digital inputs and outputs.
or.....
An amp with wireless capabilities and speakers with wireless capabilities.
or....
An amp with an ethernet port that will allow you to hook it up to a wireless router which will allow you to transmit the signal to your wireless speakers.
The future is bright!

I believe the digital out and coaxial out on preamps (really just receivers) are just used to split the signal to other systems (like recording devices) if necessary. The digital out isn't a processed signal at all in most cases. On my MP3 player I have an optical in for recording purposes. So, if you had a digital in on an amp...and all the receiver was doing was passing the digital signal from the source to the amp, there wouldn't be a lot of point in even having a receiver. Also, a "digital" signal can be DTS, Dolby Digital, PCM 2-channel audio, or another digital format, so the amp would have to start doing the receiver's job. Didn't mean to stomp on your parade...your other ideas would be nice for receivers.

Actually, my point was to have the pre amp do the processing job and pass the signal digitally (5-8 channels post processing) on to the AMP for distribution to the speakers.
I realize that right now this probably can't be done, but if, hint hint, axiom were to produce their own preamp, they could enginner it this way incorporating an ADAT protocal over the toslink or coax cable..no?

The speaker output from the amplifier is an analog signal so that is all that is needed. All receivers and pre-processors process the source input (DVD) digitally and apply bass management, level adjustment, and delay times, then the signal is converted to analog before being fed to the receiver's amplifier segment.
Pro amplifiers do not have digital inputs because that is the job of the pre-processor, not the amplifier. Since the signal gets sent to the speakers in analog anyway, this step is unavoidable.

Wow, I did not realize my posts are converted to Latin
I realize whose job is whose. My questions are mostly "what ifs", my point is that it would be cool IF you could feed all the channels, with 1 cable, from the pre to the amp. Doing this, it would then be the job of the amp to convert the processed signal from digital to analog. I seem to recall a lot of talk about this being a digital amplifier, so why then is it fed an analog signal? If it's a digital amp, is the analog signal converted to digital to do what needs to be done then converted back to analog for output to the speakers? If so, seems like a lot of unneccessary conversion.
Again these are "What ifs" seeing as how I really don't know what goes under the hood of the amp.

Yes, a single cable connection would certainly be cool. But not likely to happen anytime soon.

The XLR input that you can see in the picture will also accept a 1/4” phono jack input. We supply a ¼” to RCA adaptor for each input that allows for a revolving 90 degree acceptance of an RCA cable.
