I have the QS8's and they sound awesome for movie surround. I am wondering if they are appropriate for multi channel music (SACD). Would a pair of normal speakers make a significant difference in the music? It seems the sound would be quite a bit different coming out of QS8's rather than m22's,m2's,m3's etc..
If this is the case than the next question is how to have both QS8's and m22's and be able to listen to QS8's for movies and m22's for MC music. Opinions??

I've tried it both ways, Imo the QS8's sound every bit as good on SACD's as it did when I was using normal speakers.

I must not understand the concept of MC music. You wouldnt put QS8's as your front r/l speaker. Doesn't the MC music output full range sound to all 4 speakers minus the sub ? How about "Quad" sound or on my Yamaha receiver there is 7 channel stereo. This 7 channel mode doesn't sound good at all from the QS8's. I think that the definition of these modes is a little blurry to me.I kind of considered them all to be multi channel music modes even though I know the 7 channel stereo is just the same signal split. I was just thinking it would sound nice to have front r/l style speakers in the rear to for music? Is that crazy?

I'm pretty happy with my M3's as SB's. I don't think you could go wrong either way.

No, I would not use the QS's as front speakers, we were comparing the use of Q's as left and right surrounds as opposed to using normal speakers like m22's. As surrounds I think you would be happy using a speaker such as the QS8 for SACD's, I could not tell the difference when I changed my bookshelfs out for QS8's as my side surrounds in SACD playback.

Ideally all of the speakers should be "full range" capable of at least 20 Hz to 20 KHz. Space and cost constraints don't permit this however so the next best thing is small sattelites and full size fronts with a sub that takes care of LFE from all channels.

As for the 7-channel stereo, the quality is not a function of the the QS8s. I had direct radiating speakers for my surrounds before the QS8s and 7-channel stereo sounded as bad then as it does now. I'm not a fan of it for serious listening because it blurs the stereo image. I use it only for background listening when I have a bunch of people over. Perhaps the problem is my very live listening environment. One day when I've corrected my room acoustics maybe I'll become a fan of simulated surround.

BTW, my QS8s sound great for multi-channel recordings .

Well you all have convinced me that my QS8's are perfectly fine for surrounds with MC music. I was really wondering what I might be missing. Thanks for your replies.
