I have never used them on my Rotel gear.

Thought it would be cool if I can turn on the dvd player and everything would come on without actually having to program it into the learned remote.

All that is needed are the appropriate length cables that have a 3.5mm end. This should be explained in the Rotel manuals.

I use the 12v triggers on my pre.pro to turn on both my amp and sub. The wires for the amp are ~26 ga fused pair, like you would find on a 120v transformer powered cell phone charger. The 12v power cors for the sub is a coaxial cable with a stereo plug at both ends like this one paired with the XLR cable http://www.axiomaudio.com/balancedcable.html I haven't set up the macros on my remote to turn on the other stuff with a single push of a button, but that's next.
