Murph, can you get the Unibroue beers? They are made in Quebec and provide excellent examples of interesting, high-gravity Belgian styles.

You should be able to get Unibroue there, I would think. It's a Canadian Belgian style.

BevMo carries those! I just realized I've had those before. Thanks to Google I saw pictures of the bottles. Maybe I should start reading the bottles I actually buy.

Bevmo carries a fairly wide range of Unibroue. If you have Trader Joe's in your area (which I suspect you do), they rebrand the special edition Unibroues as their own, and they cost about half of what the Unibroue labeled ones do.

Good to know! They are like ten bucks per four-pack at Bevmo. I usually only get them when I have a gift card. I will check out Trader Joe's.

Ah, the TJ's ones are only the 750mL bottles. Use a champagne bottle retopper thingie if you're not going to drink all of it.

You know, I have some big TJ bottles at home. I wonder if those are it? My uncle had some at his Christmas Eve party and I really like the taste so I went out and picked a couple up. I think they were in limited supply though. Hmm.

That would probably be it. The 2006 was a dark beer, but still had the Belgian flavor instead of a stout type flavor. The 2005 was similar. I'm not sure if I've seen/tried the 2007 yet.

Yes, I was surprised by the taste especially after viewing the liberal alcohol content. I expected something heavy and bitter. Nope, it had a very nice taste to it.

You can tell if it's a Unibroue because it will have their logo on the cork and the cork topper (a stylized U)
