Wife and saw George Thorogood and the Destroyers last night at the King Center in Melbourne, Fl., these guys were on fire and put on an awesome show ... it's hard to believe George is 57 years old, he put on a performance like he was in his twenties.

Rented Standing in the Shadows of Motown last night. What a great documentary. This is a must see for anyone who likes Motown music. And the sound quality is EXCELLENT to boot. In 1959, Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from Detroit's thriving jazz and blues scene to begin cutting songs for his new record company. Over a fourteen year period they were the heartbeat on "My Girl," "Bernadette," I Was Made to Love Her," and every other hit from Motown's Detroit era.
By the end of their phenomenal run, this unheralded group of musicians had played on more number ones hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis and the Beatles combined - which makes them the greatest hit machine in the history of popular music. They called themselves the Funk Brothers.
Forty-one years after they played their first note an a Motown record and three decades since they were all together, the Funk Brothers reunited back in Detroit to play their music and tell their unforgettable story in STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN.
With the tumultuous sixties as a backdrop, Motown's unsung heroes take the viewer on a compelling journey in time as they trace the evolution of The Motown Sound" from its origins in Detroit to its demise in Los Angeles during the seventies. Through the eyes of the riveting characters who ruled Hitsville's studio by day and the club scene of Detroit by night, we enter a world of unparalleled soul and emotion as the Funk Brothers revisit the sites of their musical roots, triumphs, and eventual heartbreak.
For more than four decades, from the dance floors of the world, to the Detroit riots of 1967, to the war in Vietnam, the music the Funk Brothers created has played a major role in the cultural fabric of all of our lives. STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN finally puts some faces on that music and introduces these heroic musical figures to the world.

Great call on the "Standing in the shadows....", awesome documentary about these unsung heroes of Motown. Whenever I first watched it I couldn't believe just how many Motown hits the Funk Brothers played without ever hearing of the 'Funk Brothers'.

On another note, wife and I got tickets to see Eric Clapton and Robert Randolph in Tampa, Florida on the 3rd of May, kicking off his 11 north American city tour prior to heading off to Europe ... and then on Monday the 5th of May we're seeing B.B. King in Melbourne, Florida. Needless to say, we're STOKED!

just added it to the top of my Netflix Queue. Heh. Sometimes I think I'll never get to the discs hanging out at the bottom of my queue, which is about 50 titles long.

Symphony of Distraction. My Wife and I went to the PEI Symphony Orchestra with special guests Matia Gotman and returning hometown hero, Julia MacLaine. It was the Orchestra's 40th birthday so all kinds of goodies afterwards.
A very enjoyable show except for the lady who brought her infant baby. She had to leave by the second piece after he started to sing along. She waited long enough to gather some very nasty looks before admitting defeat.
All was wonderful until the final piece. The pre-teen boy behind me decided he could reproduce the string section by rubbing his hand on his pants. While he actually followed along quiet well, it sounded like speaker fuzz. took me a while to figure out what was going on.
All in all though, a nice afternoon.

Just saw my favorite band, Kraftwerk, in Minneapolis (actually Maplewood, MN) on Saturday. Drove 6 hours just to see them, plus paid a pretty penny for VIP seats and service. Crazy, I know, but it was worth it for a band that I'll probably never see again. I took some pictures and uploaded a few of the good ones to share with people. Forgive me as they suck compared to Mark's concert photos! I got carried away taking pictures of Ralf since I was on his side of the stage, not to mention he's also my favorite member of the band.

Kraftwerk brings up memories from a long time ago. You may also like The Rockets.
