As I prepare for the new home (and await my new speakers), I was looking at my existing speakers to see how I was going to mount them in the "playroom" for the kids. I pulled out the old manuals and flipped to the specifications section. Please remember that when I bought these the only thing I knew about HT or audio was that the salesperson is the most knowledgeable source of information. So, for your amusement, here is what I have to look forward to. I am hoping to get a better quality sound. On order: M60's, QS8's, VP150 and EP500. Old speakers (center, mains and surrounds): Sensitivity..........87 dB @ 2.85V, 1 meter Power Rating.........15 ~ 80 watts (rms) Driver Complement....(2) 3.5" paper-cone woofers 1⁄2" polycarbonate-dome tweeter Subwoofer.............12" Driver, 30-150Hz Ok, have fun.

The specs read like most standard fair speakers, nothing to laugh at. I would bet they sound reasonbly nice.
Ever tried to find specs for Bose speakers? I have yet to see any for my 201's, now that is something to laugh at.

Really? I didn't know that. I suppose that the comparison of the M60 to my little Minuette's was unfair to begin with (mini-bookshelf vs. floor standing) but I couldn't conceive that they would be that far apart. I guess I am just excited about my new system and posting here is about all that I can do about it for the next 6 weeks or so.
As an aside, my first serious introduction to HT was a thread on Bose. I have since learned that while Bose bashing is more common than adult-sites on the web (it's there, you just have to search really hard for it) it is considered impolite.

Impolite to Bose bash? Says who? Bose?
I think Monster has a similar corporate policy. They've got a team of lawyers working right now to figure out how to sue the whole internet community for defamation. If only "the truth" weren't a defense to defamation, they might have a claim.

It's not bashing, it's trying to protect the innocent. Last week I went to my uncles to set up his new surround system. When I arrived, he had 2 50' reels of Monster cable waiting for me in a 'Futuristic...' plastic bag. Also inside was a receipt for close to $300 for only 100' of wire.
I asked him how much of a hurry he was in and said we could do two things. Go to Home depot and cut his wire bill in half or if he had time to wait, we could order actual in-wall rated speaker wire for probably 50$ shipped from Monoprice.
I'll be back there tonight to hook up his Monoprice wire.
We did take some time to play with his new Paradigms though with some cable from his old stereo setup. I suspect he will be one happy couch potato when we get done tonight.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

You deserve a merit badge! He already has the Responsible Cabling merit badge. At lunch the other day, I overheard a couple networking guys talking about the big difference that cables make in both audio and networking. I cringed when the guy said he uses the cable from an arc welder to feed his subwoofer and it made a huge difference.

One of my patients gave me fairy dust once. I'm gonna sprinkle it in my audio cabinet.

The Monster point is well taken. Indeed, Monoprice (and its contemporaries) was one of my very first discoveries once I decided that I wanted to have better audio and video (not to mention my network needs). As a matter of fact, I received an order two days ago of component and coaxial cable that was about 80% less than I would have paid at the local big box. The quality is *IMO* higher as well.
