I bought my first SACD recordings yesterday and am not impressed. I blame it on the fact that I can't hear them. I have a Sony DVPCX995V(400 disc) DVD/SACD player. DVD and regular CD audio works fine but the SACD (hybrid) outputs no sound at all. It is hooked up with via digital coax to a Pioneer VSX-1015TX Receiver. Receiver input is set to "digital" (although Analog didn't work either). SACD player "SACD indicator" is lit up, so it is recognizing the media... Any ideas of where I might look for the problem?

Yup. SACDs don't output on digital coax. They output only on the 5.1CH output jacks, so you'll need to hook those up to your receiver's 5.1 inputs and switch to that input in order to listen to SACDs.
You may also be able to use the HDMI output, if your receiver has HDMI in (I'm lazy... didn't look) and supports SACD over HDMI.

SACD needs to be hooked up via 5 analog cables, optical or coax will not work for multi- channel SACD's.

I guess I'm getting slower with my responses.

Is this one of those things where reading the manual helps? I always get caught in those traps. Honestly, I read through the manual again and now that you have told me what to look for I see it, but it was very ambiguous. Many thanks to both of you.
I am still amazed at the programming skill of the person who made the cannon shot turn when the tank turned in Combat. Brilliant.

It also seems to work over HDMI. I also bought my first SACD just last week. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. What else?
I was amazed. I was expecting better sound but the surround envelopment was out of this world. All the special effects in this recording were flying around my head, in front, beside me, behind me, everywhere!!!
It was like I was on drugs. I definitely underestimated what this whole SACD thing was all about.
Games, Bluray, DVD, CD, streaming video, streaming music, streaming pictures, Web browsing, SACD.....
Is there anything a PS3 can't do?
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

While my player has HDMI my television does not (still on a 65" RPTV) although it is excellent for what it is used for.
Thanks again to kcarlile and HomeDad. The kids took their mom on a play-date and I had 3 hours to "test" the SACD. Once the insurance company is done I will have some shopping to do.
Good thing I am A-Retentive about my tech stuff. I had a list of every CD and DVD I own. Made it handy when filling out claim forms. While it is sad to lose so many CD/DVD's, many (most) were collecting dust so I truly get to rebuild my library with my current tastes.
