To save a little room space you could just use 1" firring strips on the walls instead of outright studs to mount the drywall on.

If you look through the link in my signature you'll see how I've wall mounted a 150 using a full metal bracket from Axiom. I used the FMB to mount my VP150 as well. That thing is solid as a rock. Those using the FMB on the VP150... do you just screw the mount directly into the VP150? Is that safe to do? I'd love to mount my VP150 on the wall, but I don't want to damage it.

Yes, the mounts are made to work with the speaker. There are pre-drilled holes (can't remember if it's one or two) and the Axiom FMB screws fit right into those holes without damage.

No pre-drilled holes here. My VP150 is several years old, and came out before the FMB.

Contact Axiom and they will tell you where you should mount the bracket. Before they started pre-drilling the speakers they had documents showing where to do it.
