I thought of posting this thread because Spiff said that Finding Nemo was the first title he really heard back surround info while watching. I could not believe this statement, so I thought of some titles that I think have amazing back surround sounds. See if you agree with me:
Gladiator: Chapter 8- Maximus throws a sword from the back channel
LOTR Fellowship: Chapter 35-The troll comes in the room through the 6th channel.
Atlantis Lost Empire: Chapter 1-Right after the begining explosion, the ships pass through all three back channels.
Haunting: Chapter 17- The bangs and booms come from behind Eleanor while she is running
Toy Story 2: Chapter 9- Al leaves the room with the camera centered on Woody. Al goes from the center to the left front to the left surround then to the back where he slams the door.
Chapter 16- The light pole comes crashing down from the back after the group crosses the street.
If anyone has any other standout back surround effects films, post them here with specific scenes!

Of those, I only own the first two, and haven't played them since installing my rear speakers. I'll have to throw them in.

Lion King (Disney Enhanced HT mix)
Titan A.E (great LEF)
Casper
Evolution
Stargate
The Mummy
True Lies
The Fifth Element
GalaxQuest
The Others
The Avengers
Verticle Limit
Sorry, don't have time to type in specific scenes. You'll just have to watch and see for yourself. But all make great use of surround chanels.

No, I said back surround channels, as in 7.1 or 6.1 surround. Not 5.1.

I was under the impression that not many movies had 6.1/7.1 encoding as of yet. Like DJ_Stunna said Star Wars 1 and 2 are great bets of good additional channel encoding.
This does make me wonder what would make the best surround and rear surround speak setup ?. QS8 sides and M3 rears ? QS8 x4 ? hmmm, Alan I think your advice would be greatly appreciated =).
Besides Casper and the Avengers I have all the others mentioned on DVD, grr I wish I have 7.1 surround /cry, well I can always hope for Christmas this year =).
God I love DVDs, I have enough that I think im in need of a 12 step program =) haha

I think most people prefer two M2's in the back for 7.1. I however, only have a 6 channel amp and my back wall is only 12', so I bought one QS8 for the rear and it works great!
Also, any movie in 5.1 can be changed by the reciever into 6.1. Some movies really benefit from this. One that I can think of off the top of my head is Independece Day. There are many back surround effects that seem like they were originally intended for 6.1, but they were not. Also, many movies are actually 6.1 mixes, but the packaging does not say it, i.e. Atlantis, or Jurassic Park 3.
The Hulk was 6.1 theatrically, but the DVD does not say it on the packaging, but it still is a 6.1 mix.
