I wouldn't recommend a blind buy of Sin City. It's definitely not for everyone.

IN the Action Genre, either of the two newest Batman movies are a must have for my tastes and for showing off the system. Both are reference quality for my purposes.
Iron Man has some pretty spectacular sights and sounds. Lots of sub woofer exercises to keep it fit.
I know you are an anime buff so I figured 'good' remakes of comic heroes is not a stretch for you.
I have Transformers on HD-DVD, at least until my player dies and I can only assume that the BR version is as spectacular as the HD version.
All of these have everything you need to impress the hell out of your friends and are actually enjoyable movies to boot. Only problem is that everyone has seen already, but maybe not on your system.......
The ever quoted "Master and Commander" remains my favorite movie to show off my sound system. I have yet to hear any other movie with such a well done and detailed surround track. The LFE in the cannon fire and explosions fills the rib cage shaking bill too. it's also a great movie to watch and unlike the others, not everyone has seen it.
My vote for next purchase is the essential "Master and Commander". Because it's as spectacular as it gets for sound and you might hit a few of your friends who have not yet seen it so you'll have an exuse to watch it again.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Thanks Charles (I'll reserve Sin City for a rental) and Murph, I've seen all of the movies you mentioned, and my favorite by far was The Dark Knight, although I did very much enjoy Iron Man, but these were all on DVD obviously. I have Master and Commander on DVD and although I didn't enjoy the movie like the others aforementioned, you are definitely right that it is as good as it gets for sound, and I have many friends that haven't seen it, because I've suggested that we watch it, and they declined. With all due respect, right now, your first suggestion of the newest Batman is the best, just because I enjoyed it much more than Master and Commander. Any more suggestions ?

My picks for action flicks on Blu-ray would be The Dark Night and Black Hawk Down for sound quality. I recently watched Transformers and the sound quality of that movie was superb also.

I haven't seen the BR version of Sin City, but Imo the SD version was visually stunning. I just put the BR version at the top of my Netflix cue. Oh, and I loved the movie.

I'm in the middle of Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels.
Goodness, that's not what I expected...
Also started Around the World in 80 Days, which I had mixed up with It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Somehow. Don't ask me how. About 45 minutes in, I realized why the movie is 3 hours long...

I just watched the video for the new Regina Spektor song, "Laughing With". I don't care what you all say. She's so pretty.
