Maybe when people announce they have speakers coming we should ask how many CDs they have. Then we can multiply that by the average play time of a CD and estimate when we will hear from them again Sorry it's taken so long. It has actually been a combination of all the reasons stated in the above posts. LOL yeah it does take time to listen to 800+ cds let's see using an average time of 60 miutes = 800 hours or about 33 days listening 24/7. We also had a big family event over the weekend that limited the amount of time I had to listen to anything at all. I also have an issue with my ep-500, as in I can't get any sound from it. JC and I did some troubleshooting the other day and have determined that the amp has a problem. A new one is being sent as I write this. Ok that was the bad news. The good news is that the speakers sound fantastic. Even without the SW the M-80s make everything I play sound better that I have ever heard it before. The QS8's are the best surrounds I have ever heard. They make movies come to life. We were watching Valkyrie Sunday evening and the opening scene in North Africa when the anti-aircraft gun starts firing scared the crap out of both my wife and I. I swear I had to check myself out because I thought I had been shot. I still have some tweaking to do. My wife is going to be gone all of next week so you can be assured that there will be some serious listening going on while she is away. I can't wait to get the amp in and power up the SW so I can get the full effect.

That's kinda cruddy about the bad subwoofer, but glad you liked the rest of the set up! Really, those QS8s are something extra special--brings the surround experience in movies to life.

I can't wait to get the amp in and power up the SW so I can get the full effect. I hear ya brother! I had a similar let down last night when I blew a fuse just before movie time! It sucks sooo bad when you're all pumped for something and it doesn't go according to plan. Tonight I get to hear the EP800 during a movie though, so at least my wait won't be quite as bad as yours. But that puts you and I in exactly the same boat... listening to movies with the M80's, VP150 and QS8's without the help of a subwoofer of any kind... I was truely impressed with how well the M80's handled the duties of LFE during 'Dark Knight'. Now a side by side comparison of movie night with no subwoofer v/s movie night with the EP800 will no doubt be no contest. But as you said, the M80's are truely fantastic all by themselves. Have I mentioned that I love my M80's?

Ok I did some serious listening this weekend and the more I listen to these speakers the more I love them. I read in a forum here once that it takes a little time for your ears to adjust to the quality sound that the Axioms produce. I think that maybe a fairly accurate statement, especially when you were listening to an htib and move to the Epic 80-500 system. I'm still waiting for the new amp for the EP-500 to get here, looks like Wed of this week, so I turned off the QS8s and VP150 when listening to just audio over the weekend. Wow what a soundstage those too speakers create, they absolutely fill my room . Even in my accoustically challenged room the M-80s are just plain fantastic, you don't hear the speakers you hear the music. I am an Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull fan so I broke out my Minstral in the Gallery Remaster CD. I closed my eyes and it was like they were in the room playing a concert just for me. There were times when Ian's flute sent shivers down my spine. We also listen to a lot of Classical too, my wife commented during Beethovens 9th that even during the softer passages you are able to hear every instrument. Then I turned the VP150 and QS8s back on and watched the LOTR "Fellowship of the Ring". I was pretty sure going in that the scenes of the Mines of Moria were going to be special. I was not disappointed, The sounds of the water tricking aound you, and the echos in the tunnels and Great Hall were just wonderful. When Pippin knocked the head off of the corpse and then it all fell down the well was great, I don't remember being able to hear just how far down that well everything fell before. Then the drums, OMG even without the sub the drums were very deep and tight. I can't wait to see that scene again with the sub, it may just vibrate the plaster off the outside of my house. Ok I spent many hours this weekend listening to a variety of music and watching movies. I can honestly say that Axiom will not be getting these speakers back.

Congrats, Olderbutweiser! Yeah, it takes a bit to readjust your ears to a new sound, but you did it the right way and kept an open mind.
Moments like you had this weekend are what this hobby is all about. Now sit back and enjoy your system as much as you can, cuz it'll always make you happy.

The mines of moria was one of the first sequences I watched in 5.1. I can't wait to hear your impressions of the Balrog once you fire up the EP800.

Just wait until you can watch movies with a good subwoofer. It adds a whole new dimension to the experience .
