Man-0-man-o-man. I think I've just discovered the best movie for LFE and I don't even have a sub woofer. I purchased 2012 BR at Sam's club today and just finished watching it. All I have is a pair of M22's and a W100. I watched it at -9db and I'm surprised I still have a house left standing.

My daughter had some friends over and watched it last night - I was on the ground floor and could hear the rumble. I think I'll check it out tonight. 2012 that is.

I've got Zombieland on Bluray from Netflix waiting for the right night to watch.
Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.

Evangelion: 1.11 - You are (not) alone
This is my first exposure to Neon Genesis Evangelion. I'm not really sure what I think of it. There was some cool artwork and some nice sound, but the story didn't do a whole lot for me. I think I'd probably have gotten more out of it if I was already familiar with the previous incarnations, but maybe not. Maybe it picks up and moves into more engaging material in the sequel.

I watched the original on VCDs and thought it was ok but that was based on it being one of the first anime series I watched. If I watched it again I’d likely be hard pressed to give it 3 out of 5 stars. I guess it was groundbreaking for it’s day, but pales in comparison to much of what I’ve watched since.
I’ll have to give this version a try. AFAIK this was a compilation of the first 6 or so episodes of the series. Just saw that Netfix doesn’t seem to have the Blu-ray version. Guess I’ll wait.

Your post count is now my birth year.
I've also been re-watching Fate/stay night. I still like it. I like how there are only a handful of attempts at humor through the whole thing, and they seem so out of place.

Disk 5 is missing so it’s in my Blockbuster queue but they often change hard-to-get things to “unavailable” once they hit the top. Making up for the all-to-often missing disk from Netflix and some mainstream stuff like Deep Space 9 right now are the only reasons I keep Blockbuster around.

Earlier I watched the Blu-ray of “Ultraviolet.” Ok overall the movie sucks but I like the action scenes and Milla Jovovich in spandex w/varying hair colours. However, mostly I rented it because of the review at Blu-ray.com, specifically the audio.
Gotta say I didn’t feel the love they did for it. Actually I’d reverse the scores they gave for the video and audio as I felt the video was far better. Not to say the audio sounded bad but they talked about all this bass which I just didn’t feel. I was so surprised I had to pop in the Blu-ray of “Master and Commander” to make sure something wasn’t wrong with my system. There was a good amount of ambience like they said and a small amount of directional surround cues but nothing to rave about.
Also the audio “layering” they liked didn’t work much for me. During the opening fights a machinegun firing isn’t very audible over the music. But then the music goes soft and the machine gun sounds much better only to be drowned out again. I actually found this very distracting and not even done as well at the opening fight in the standard def version of “Appleseed.”
Like I said I much preferred the video. This had the inkiest blacks I think I’ve ever seen. They also mention the washing out of the detail in faces compared to the stark sharpness of the surrounds which was an effect I rather liked. Sure it looked unnatural (surreal might be a better description) but it’s a comic book based scifi movie not a nature flick.

The new Star Trek movie. I just bought it and watched it for the first time.
I remember watching the original Star Trek on a black and white TV at home, but was really impressed when I saw it in color for the first time at a Montgomery Wards store. (That was one of those memorial events, like knowing where you were when president JFK got shot.) Then I watched through all the movies and through the next generation, then lost interest.
Watching this movie didn't spark any new interest in me either and I was rather underwhelmed by it. For one thing, the evil enemies didn't impress me as much as the one on Galaxy Quest. These seemed too, human or something. Like some seconds they found at the last minute and splashed some paint on their faces.
I did partially enjoy some of the interaction among the crew members trying to act like their older counterparts, but even in this it seemed like they could have done a better job. It didn't feel natural, but contrived (which it was.)
