IMO, it's probably better without the boot for heat dissapation. The new amps also have airhole slots on the plate whereas the old ones did not (the amp chamber is now sealed internally with MDF). Another 5 hours so far today with no problems!

Interesting info on the new subs. Those do seem like good ideas.

I do love looking at electronic components. That one looks like a capacitor dollhouse.

When I first received the email on 03/19 the projected delivery info was not in the system, and I've been busy and just now had a chance to check tracking, to my surprise I discovered it had been delivered 3 days ago!
The package has been sitting across the street for the past 3 days (delivery 03/25/10 at 12:38 pm), the address does not have a For Sale sign but does have a Realtor padlock on the front door, so my guess is no one lives there right now.
The package appears to be in one piece, fortunately my wife made me buy a dolly a while back so I was able to retrieve it with no trouble.
Although I've been extremely pleased with the ep800 I'm tempted to try a 2 sub setup before I have to ship the old one back, since this will be my last chance to experiment with that option for the foreseeable future. With the current HT placement the room doesn't really lend itself to 2 subs so I suppose it won't be too much of a temptation or hardship if it turns out sounding great.
Where to find the time though, today was supposed to be doing taxes day, last year we didn't file until October . . .

Wow, that's scary having the EP800 just sitting there for 3 days, but I'm glad you found it.

I would most definitely run duals for a day or 2 just to see how it sounds.

Now that the issues for the EP800 have been ironed out, is there an actual design difference for the horizontal model?
Axiom mentions possible placement behind the couch...which way would it be facing?
Lastly, is there a FR graph for the EP800?

OK so running the two subs has officially ruined me, long story short it is a huge improvement.
What I found surprising was that it significantly improves all of the material, not just material that emphasizes bass or LFEs. Three things specifically I notice: 1) everything sounds more realistic and distinct because it is anchored by a more accurate low end, 2) the surround effects are much more pronounced, believable, and vivid, and 3) the soundstage is more opened up, if that's the right term, i.e., a lot of sounds don't seem to be coming from specific speakers so much as originating from different locations within the room.
One reason I suspect that the directionality or localization of the sound, so to speak, is so much better is that with only one sub there is a slight or not so slight directionality to the low frequencies that is not supposed to be present and that directionality disrupts the effects of left/right, front/back, side/side so that you don't clearly perceive what the source material is trying to say about where in the room or on the screen the sound is supposed to be emanating from, all those implications become a bit muddy or fuzzy, and realism goes out the window.
This is what I was afraid of, because now I want a second sub, and can't afford one. Where there's a will there's a way, or will be one day I suppose, at least this way I'll know why I should bother to get a second sub if I ever happen to be flush again.
Has anyone tried mating the EP800 with something less spendy and achieving a reasonable blend? I must say though, the two whale subs sure do seem to go together.
