Without giving anything away, Charles, I'll just say that there's much more of what you like and less of what you don't like coming in future episodes. Season four, for me, is when it starts to get flat-out great, without even a few of the "campy" episodes that filled season one and were sprinkled through season 2.

Well, Spike is just plain a really fun character, at least once the writers get him going. Be warned, this is Joss Whedon, though... don't get too attached to anyone. Bastard.

Just watched the Blu-ray of Star Trek Nemesis. I watched it again because it was the best rated of the Next Gen movies for video and audio quality by Blu-ray.com. In both those respects it doesn’t disappoint. OTOH the second time through it was really uninteresting.

But... but... the movie completely blows! I was so disappointed when I saw it. I mean, Insurrection was better.

Just watched The Powerpuff Girls Movie. This is soooo better than Star Trek Nemesis. Actually movie is a bit of a misnomer as it really plays like an extended version of a normal episode. Unfortunately like many 30 minute TV spots extended out it’s not as tight and contains some filler. Also for some reason Netfilx only has the 1.33:1 transfer and not the 1.85:1 though they list that they do. OTOH the 5.1 soundtrack was pretty good with audio effects zipping all around the room. One thing I’ve noticed about a lot of cartoons is that they often have better surround sound than most movies.
If you’re not a PPG fan, what’s wrong with you? These girls kick butt. In the opening sequence alone they nearly lay waste to Townsville playing tag with each other and things pretty much go downhill for the people of Townsville after that. Of course they eventually save the day. The movie also makes fun of several other movies like the original Planet of the Apes and King Kong.
The animation style for PPG is a combination of 50’s Hanna Barbara and Japanese Anime. It’s nothing special but for what it’s doing it works. It’s a shame this show was on Cartoon Network since if it had been on broadcast TV I’m sure it’s popularity would have gone through the roof.

Yeah the second time through I was hitting the FF button a lot to skip to the “action” scenes. The first time it was marginally better because it was new but it sure didn’t stand up to a second viewing.

I like the Powerpuff Girls. I didn't actually watch many episodes, but I liked the ones I saw. I should really try to see more sometime. Thanks for reminding me they exist.

Well, I can tell you what I'm not watching anymore. Stargate Universe
As a big fan of the other Stargate series's, I left this one on my PVR hoping it would stop being boring. Not happening, it seems. I know they are trying to ride on the success of Battlestar Galactica that manged to inject real weekly drama into the science fiction genre but they are failing badly. The show is about 93% desperately trying to build characterization, leaving only about 7 percent for actual story progression. The ratio just isn't working.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking about what to use as my SciFi fix since just finishing B5 looks like I’ll be putting SGU off a little longer.

Ha ha, I love when Jack Hanna is on Letterman. Why doesn't he know anything about animals?!
