hey all. I have the m22 in/on wall speakers along with a velodyne spl12. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an amplifier to drive them. I currently have an onkyo 707. works well but I want something different, just cuz. It will do movies and music. Looking to spend around a 800-1000 bucks. It must have Audyssey Sound Equalizer. I tried using the search function here but I came up with a million hits no matter what I searched? If this has been covered before please point me to the thread. Thanks. FYI. My listening area is a bit on the bright side.

Iity, "just cuz" doesn't cut it with me, since there should be some reason to spend more money. Your 707 is excellent and would probably be my suggestion for a receiver if you didn't have one. There's no need to attempt to "match" the receiver with speakers; no receiver is either "warm" or "bright". A similar receiver to the 707 would be the Denon 2310.

Whaterver receiver tickles your fancy. The 707 is fairly new and has most of the bells and whistles so I don't see how you are going to get anything much different unless you fork over a lot more $
The new Sherwood Newcastle receiver with Trinov processing for $1800 would be cool.

Sorry guys. Made a typo It's a tx-sr700. I was eye balling the 707 and I guess that was stuck in my head. Yes, it is a great sounding receiver. Just old, no hdmi, no Audyssey eq, etc. One other issue for me personally. The remote for it uses the same ir frequency as a led back light I have for my tv. So, any time I change inputs, the back lights flash, or change colours. It is annoying. No fault of the Onkyo.

The 707 would be cool as it has useful stuff like dynamic volume. It also has pre-outs on the off chance you ever need outboard amplification. I was close to buying it before I picked up a demo 2808

Thanks, It does look good but I want to try something besides Onkyo. Been with Onkyo for over 15 years now.

Honestly I really don't need much. Optical digital inputs. 5.1 surround. PLENTY of power. Automatic speaker calibration and setup. I don't even need video switching. I know, I know, My current Onkyo setup has all that except speaker calibration. I am just looking for something different.

Okay; more up-to-date features are certainly a good reason for getting a new receiver. If you want to change brands, the Denon 3310 factory refurb on sale here for about $635 plus shipping is an excellent buy. If anything, factory refurbished units should be even more likely than a brand new one to work well.
