Avatar for the first time. A visual and audible treat on blu-ray for sure.

I just noticed that the 3D version of Avatar is coming out in November, if anyone is interested.

Ha ha. I'm not a football fan, but this video about Dick Butkus made me laugh.

Entertaining anime so far. It's funny.

Some of it is already getting a little tiresome, but I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet.

I've mentioned the issue before, where the audio drops out for a couple of seconds and then comes back on when watching different anime shows on Blu-ray, and I'm noticing it's FUNimation anime titles. The issue is very consistent. This is happening on my OPPO, so I think I'll try watching the next disc in the PS3 and see if the issue still occurs.

Charles please update your findings on the audio dropout. I have yet to watch any anime series on Blu-ray only a few movies but never noticed an audio dropout problem, not sure what companies though. I’ve considered ordering some on BD but I already have almost every series I can get on DVD already so it will have to be something new or old but now unavailable on DVD.

I’ve almost watched “Ouran High School Host Club” several times but for some reason just gravitated to another title. It’s been sitting on my shelf for some time so I’m looking forward to you overall impression.

I emailed OPPO about the audio, and it appears to be a problem with the bitstreaming. Here's their reply:

Quote:
Set HDMI to LPCM and not Bitstream when playing back Japanese Animations which use Dolby Digital TrueHD soundtracks. This is a known issue when Bitstreaming which we want to resolve through a future firmware release.

Interesting that they specified “Japanese Animations.” I wonder if and or why it only effects them or do you think that they were just referring to the specifics of your question?

Amazon.com has some pretty good prices on BD anime right now. The options are still pretty limited, but if you know you like the series and it's out on Blu-ray, just wait for the price to drop, since the prices do tend to drop quite a bit. It's not uncommon to see them going for the same price or slightly less than the DVD versions, which I found surprising and welcome.

I wondered that briefly myself, but I wasn't too concerned about coming up with an actual answer since I haven't had any audio problems outside of these anime titles. I was just glad they were aware of the issue and had plans to address it.
