Greetings,
After reading a lot of these posts, I thought I would be immune to this disease, but here goes. I recently acquired the Epic 50 system, although I first ordered it without the sub, but I managed to get a "Darla" stricken Hsu STF-2 sub, so returned that to CompUSA and then just ordered the EP175. Now, I'm starting to wonder if I should upgrade to either the Epic 60 or just keep the 50's and get QS8 and VP150. I'm not dissatisfied with what I have, but now I've started to wonder "what if" as my 30 day trial period draws to an end...anyone have any thoughts on if I should step higher up the Axiom chain?

Upgradeitis within the 30 day period? Man, you got it bad and that ain't good.

I've never heard the M50's. I ADORE my M60's. You're always going to wonder what that midrange could be doing for you.

I really have no complaints with it, but I should tell you that I only had the STF-2 hooked up long enough to test it and then I returned it. I balanced out everything with the Radio Shack meter, and to my ear it seems to be fine, but I really don't have anything to compare it to at this point. I guess I could have tried SVS, and I know they have a good reputation for customer service, but Axiom was so easy to deal with that I just went back to them. The looked up my original order, game me the 5% system discount, and 2 days later a sub appeared, with no signs of the Darla disease... Any thought on my original question about upgrades?

Having never heard any of the speakers you own, it's hard for me to say. (But how often does that stop me?)

When people ask before purchasing they're generally told to grab the VP150 and QS8's right from the start.

The M50/M60 comparison isn't so much which is better, as much as it's which do you prefer.

To be honest, I knew what the general consensus was, but based on a few conversations with the good folks at Axiom, plus their snazzy home theater wizard, I was already halfway sold on what I ordered. Like I said, I don't have any complaints at all, but was just wondering...

bob,
I have to agree with spiff here.

It does come down to preferences and unfortunately your idea of perfect never ends. You could search for a lifetime and still wonder, "what if".

The system you have is excellent. I have the EP350 sub from Axiom and i am thrilled. A friend of mine will be ordering the SVS PCi 20-39 soon so hopefully i can finally compare, but just offhand, this sub is fantastic. Axiom makes good products period. If you like their sound now, a "slight upgrade" to their higher priced models will not make a world of difference, just slight differences.

Don't worry about 'what ifs'.
Enjoy the 'what is' instead.

That's not too profound this late at night is it?

Not only is that not "too profound" for any hour, but it is a perfect sentiment for me to keep in mind. It would probably apply to other things in my life besides the sound system, too...how's that for profound?
Thanks,
b.

Yeah. Better learn to be content. There's always a better model (if not currently, within the next couple years).

I had a friend that was "waiting" to get their first home PC. He just kept waiting because "next month, RAM will be cheaper" or "next month the latest P4 will come out". Poor sap almost never got a home PC.

Its not the same, but, the guy was just always throwing "but if..." and was just never satisfied. Miserable way to live!

enjoy your system... its a good one.

Bob4action,
If you are not married, I would suggest doing so. It certainly helps with overcoming "upgradeitis".
At least in my case!
