Hey Guys! I've already finished my home theater room upstairs which has the following equipment: - Panasonic TC-P65 V10 65" Plasma - Sony BDP-S350 - Yamaha RX-V3800 - Axiom Epic 60 - 500 Speakers (7.1) I'm now focusing on our Great Room which is our main TV watching room. The Great Room is used to watch TV 95% of the time but we might watch the odd DVD or Blu-ray. The TV in this room is the Sony KDL-55 XBR8 55" LED LCD which actually has decent built in speakers right out of the box. I would like to setup a 2.1 or 3.1 system in this room as the back of the room is open to the kitchen and the wife doesn't want rear speakers on the walls or on stands. I would like to use Axiom speakers if possible. Can you guys help me come up with a nice TV watching 2.1 or 3.1 system for this room? Thanks, Zak

I think you might be able to get some M22's(on stands or beside the TV if the stand is large enough) and a Vp100/150 under/over the TV and the sub could go between the fireplace and sectional, kind of like an end table or under an endtable.
I had my old system corner loaded like that and the aforementioned set up worked great.

If that fireplace is going to put out a lot of heat, I might not put the sub there, though.

I could probably place the sub behind the TV as there's actually quite a bit of room back there with a screen this wide.
The M22's and the VP100 seem to be a good match but which sub would play nicely with them?
I don't want anything too big (EP350+). Is the EP125 too small?
Thanks, Zak

Both the EP125 and the EP175 are too small for all but the smallest of rooms. EP350 is good. EP500 is better. I have EP350, room size of 17' x 12' x 10' with 2 openings and it provides plenty of bass.
But since there's no wall into the kitchen, you may also have to calculate that area also. (Might want to tie down the dishes).

A sub plays very nicely with them. Zak, drop on by my place (I am in Calgary too if you haven't noticed) I have some M22s, VP100 and a PB13 sub that you can listen to, as well as M80s if you are interested.

Another vote for m22's (plus a sub), unless u can swing m80s an use them for stereo listening too. I wouldn't go with a center channel unless u go to a full 5.1 system but that is just personal preference.

Since you have a HT room already, if you want earth shattering explosions you will watch it in there. I think for you living room you are looking for a nice alternative to TV speakers.
I think you might consider a pair of M2's (or 22's) and an EP175. I had a 175 for a few weeks and thought it was a great sub for music and still had some horsepower for the odd dinosaur footstep or thunder clap!
THe M2's are very small, easy to place, and I have heard great things about them. Plus the imaging is so wonderful that I doubt you would miss a center channel.
In my living room I have a pair of Axiom AX2's from a past life and they are perfect for background music, or basic TV watching.

I agree with the Wolf-dude. M22s if you have the room or M2s. The EP175 will be fine for music to fill in down to 35-40 Hz, but won't do much for movies. If you need more oompf on the bottom end, the EP400 would work really well.
I don't know much about small sealed subs from other manufacturers.

I'm leery of the EP175, after having one, and turning off all speakers except for the SW and hearing noises that shouldn't be there. It sounds like I was maxing out the speaker at my normal listening levels. Not pretty. Like I said earlier, it might be good for a really small room. (Bathroom, closet, pantry, etc.)
