Thanks for the update Charles, I hadn't been keeping up on it and I still haven't run REW in the new house.

Yeah I just received a message from the HTS. I currently don't have the proper sound card for running REW but maybe...oneday.

CV,
Have you used it yet? Tell us your impression of it. I won't be using it for a while. I was hoping someone else would do all the work. Ha ha.

Yes, do let us know how it goes.
I've been toying with the idea of getting an appropriate mic & soundcard and tinkering with RoomEQ. It certainly looks pretty cool. I'll be curious to hear what you think of it, and what hardware you end up using to make it happen.

I tried this once, but I couldn't get past the "getting a loud hum" part.

I'd like to give this a try in a week's time when I come back from vacation. At the moment, I am using the SVS-AS-EQ1 but it only calibrates the Sub.

I used the old version, a Behringer Feedback Destroyer and the M-Audio midi controller to tame a couple nasty bass peaks in my room. Haven't tried the new one yet.
I was just using a RS SPL meter for a mic.
I think REW is really only for "analysis". You can use a BFD or some other device on low frequencies, but calibration takes advanced algorithms and processing power like Audyssey. And even then, you have to wonder whether you're making things "better".
You can use REW, a mic and a compatible soundcard (I have the old Sound Blaster external one that is referenced sometimes on the site) to generate lovely charts, graphs, etc.
What you choose to do with the charts and graphs is kind of another matter.
