Hi everyone. I am wondering what you guys would suggest for my living room for tv and occasional music. In my theater room in the basement I have the M80s, VP180, EP500 and 4 QS8s with an Onkyo 3007. We do watch a lot of tv in the living room upstairs. All serious music and movies are done in the room in the basement. But would like to put a couple of speakers in the living room. Wandering if the M3s would be sufficient or should I go with the M22s. I want the best sound I can get without having to go too big. Thanks in advance for any input.

In our living room I currently am enjoying a 3.1 setup with M22's, VP100, and EP350 driven by Denon 2805/Outlaw 7700 setup. The Outlaw is only upstairs temporary until I finish the redesign of my downstair theater. I really love the sound during movies, almost as good as my downstair theater.

That is a nice setup. I would like to be able to go with a 3.1 system But my tv is above a fireplace and I only have 3 1/2 inches above and below the tv. So not enough room for even the VP 100. If I get the 22s I may move my EP500 to the living room sometime in the future and go with the 600 or 800 in the basement.

I just recently added the vp100. Prior to that just the m22's alone did a very good job. With no center, your left/right speakers will create a phantom center, which does a very good job. I think any of the speakers will do a good job, and if you can throw a sub in the mix some day, that will help. My wife was not to excited when a large box showed up one day to the left of the entertainment center.

Thanks for the info. Really been leaning towards the M22. Thought about the M60 but just didn't want to put all that much into something for limited use. I do like pretty good volume when I do listen and I assume the M22 would do a good job. My wife is 75% deaf, born that way, so a pretty good volume is good for her too.

The M22's can play as loud as you want, depending on room size. I was able to achieve ~100db max volume with my Denon 1804 and a weak sub at 8' away in small/medium size room - 2 12X16x8 rooms connected in an 'L' shape.
Randy, that pic gives a idea as the size of the Outlaw 7700, I think I would have some rearranging to do if I ever get one.

I just added M3s to my living room for exactly this purpose. it will be a stereo only setup for music and TV. The M3s play a little deeper than the M22s so if you do not intend to add a sub (and/or center channel) they may be a better choice.

I use these in my bedroom. They fit well on my dresser and would look nice attached to a wall or on the mantle. Their sound is pretty neutral and sounds similar to my Axioms. Not much bass so I supplement it with a small sub. http://www.definitivetech.com/Products/products.aspx?path=Speakers%20By%20Series|Mythos%20Series&productid=Mythos%20Two M3s would be great without a sub, m22s if you expect to add a sub eventually. Or, for a very simple installation, I actually like the Boston TV soundbars. This one is stereo only, has a built in amp, and a wireless sub. It's a good way to get decent sound without any fuss. They won't match the clarity of a M22, but it'll add a lot to your experience over TV speakers. http://www.bostonacoustics.com/TVee-Model-20-P422.aspx

Steve, I missed this one last month, but my suggestion would be to go with the M22s and rely on them for a "phantom" center channel. A sub, although generally desirable, wouldn't appear to be essential for the use that you describe. The M22 is actually tuned about 5Hz lower than the M3(as shown by the NRC measurements)and the bass is quite sufficient for most uses.
