I should be getting my M40's in a couple of days (I can't wait). I was really looking at getting the M60's, but with the special offer to Axiom Audiofile subscribers, I had to jump on the 40's. Plus, fhw's review helped.
Anyway, I just wanted to know what frequency X-over settings you guys and gals use, assuming your component let's you adjust them, with your M40's or other Axiom towers.
My H/K AVR520 receiver has "Large" 40Hz or 60Hz and "Small" 80Hz or 100Hz speaker settings. I can select different X-over points for different modes, so what would you recommend for stereo and/or HT? BTW, anything below the cut-off point is handled by an Acoustic Research 12" 120W subwoofer.
Thanks.

hmmm
I would say try them all, but the M40's would probably sound good with 60, or 40.

Big_L,set to small and 80hz. Be sure to then turn the sub crossover all the way up and leave it there, or even better, bypass it entirely if your sub has that option.

Hey Big L,
With the sale of M40's going on, it is going to be hard for me to pass them up as mains. I am on the fence between them and the M60's. What center channel and surrounds are you using? Does anyone think that the VP150 does not match well with the M40's?
Thanks in advance!

Hey SEC FAN,
I just got my M40's yesterday and I couldn't be happier!
To be honest, I expected them to sound like my M3's only with the abiltiy to go a little lower in the bass area. Boy, was I wrong!
I had my M3's set-up with a crossover of 80Hz. When I hooked up the M40's, leaving the same freq. cut-off, bass had a lot more presence. I decided to set-up my M40's as "Large" speakers with the crossover set at 60Hz and they sound great. BTW, when I re-calibrated everything, I had to lower the mains by about a dB indicating to me the M40's are more sensitive than the M3's.
Anyway, I still have my JBL N24's as surrounds. I can't wait for the FULL METAL BRACKET to become available so I can put my M3's up as surrounds. The VP100 serves duty up-front. I watched Aliens3 last night and IMO the VP100 is a good match for the M40's and M3's. But I've never heard a VP150, so I can't tell you it won't sound better.
