I'll have to endorse Linda Ronstadt as well. Although she's seemingly been covert over the past 10-15 years or so Linda was quite amazing no matter what genre of music she chose.

Since you are all exploring new female singers, I will plug a local girl whose song "one Way" from her new album is features on USA Today's Track of the Week.
