Finishing a bottle of Ommengang Quadruppel tonight. I'm really torn on this beer. If I drink it with the wrong thing (and just about anything is wrong), it just tastes like rotten cherries and alcohol. But it's pretty decent if I catch it just right. Anyone else tried this one? It's their Quaddrupel with 2% cherry beer.

It's quite yummy. Maybe I'll have some vanilla ice cream with it.

I wish we had the variety you folks enjoy. It is getting better. However, we aren't big enough locally to support a lot of micro-breweries. We are starting to see a growing trickle of options shipped in from others places. Bottom line is that our Gov. still has too much control over allowed brands.

Well, there are some tradeoffs to living in the area you do, but I think you've prioritized well. smile

I agree Peter, beer is good and all, but my ultimate goal is to live on the water again eventually. You've got it right Murph!

Last night, tomtuttle, KenC and I met up in Washington, DC at Churchkey, one of our favorite places to hit when Tom's business brings him to this coast. As Tom would say, "It was fabulous and you are all jealous."

We did 4 oz tasters of several of their finest, had the American version of poutine - here called "Disco Fries" - and talked until we had solved all of the world's problems.

If we can find our receipts, we may be able to post in more glorious detail what we actually drank.

Tom, I hope the meetings remain not unpleasant. Thanks for starting the ball rolling on the meetup - always great to see you again.

You too, Ken, and I hope the pox on your house subsides ASAP. We'll have to get the families together when it does. You too, when you return from your cross-country adventures, Peter.

I had a Hof Ten Dormaal Barrel Aged Project #2 - Cognac. Really tasty. My first impression was grapefruit, but there was a lot more to it than that. A very citrusy beer (obviously), almost wine-like in profile. Quite drinkable, and it went well with the fried fish type thing I had. By sheer luck. Once again, my approach of purchasing the most expensive thing on the menu has not steered me wrong!
