Here's a list of the 30 IPA's to drink before you die to fight about if you want. I'll offer three observations. First, I've enjoyed several sessions of Headhunter IPA from Fat Head's in Cleveland, which has won many awards. It's omission (along with Pliny the Elder) is inexcusable. Second, IPA originated in England and there is not ONE English IPA on the list. Finally, a vast majority of the world's hops are grown in Washington and Oregon, and none of the 300+ breweries in the NW are represented. So, yes there are some great beers listed and I still have some work to do, but the overall East-coast-bias of the compilation makes it pretty incredible.

Great Lakes has a new DIPA out called Alchemy Hour, and it is fantastic. The hops have a citrusy bite and there's a nice amount of residual sweetness to balance them. Also, I had some Heady Topper a couple weeks ago and was blown away by how balanced it was. It is unfiltered and the actually has a good amount of yeast floating around in it, which contributed to the fatness of its flavor. Two more days until I host a beer tasting night.

Had some of This last night. Mrs. Classis, who normally greatly dislikes hoppy brews, kept coming back for one more sip - I felt like a crack dealer

Surprisingly smooth and not nearly as bitter as the number would suggest, nor as hoppy as 'geddon might suggest... Both of us described as close to an abbey ale, but hoppier. Certainly worth trying.
I still lean toward beers like Sierra Nevada Torpedo. I just picked up a case of Timber Beast - so that should hold me for a while.

Managed to get two of the beers listed on Monday night. My boss was in town this week and we went out for dinner at the Yard House and sampled some Ballast Point Sculpin IPAs. First tried a six-pack of these a few months ago. Unfortunately, they are rather expensive ~15 bucks or so, but worth it to treat yourself at least once. Nicely balanced with an excellent finish. It's like a stealth IPA, all the taste without the effrontery. Also tried the Firestone Wookey Jack, which was solid, but I ended up going back to the Sculpin (as did my boss). Of course, all beers taste a little better when your boss buys.

Found a pub "Pub Alexandre" in Quebec City last week that served 200 flavors of beer. I had a really nice local stout with a coffee hint to it and a couple of other local IPAs and darker.
The atmosphere was nice but confusing. It was an Irish pub but the entertainment was a jazz couple (sax & guitar) and for the second set they did jazzed up versions of Nirvana, Pearl Jam etc.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.
