This is not that different a style - going from low-fi pop/rock to a slow piano man vibe, but I really (REALLY REALLY OBSESSED REALLY) like both versions of “Archie, Marry Me”.

The original, by Alvvays: video

Turned into a Death Cab for Cutie slow song, by Ben Gibbard: video

You can likely find the whole thing on YouTube. Here's Young Lust - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7QJ48vQGMg

I missed your original post, but...

... we were sitting in the Townehouse Tavern in Sudbury today waiting for our burgers, and a familiar sounding bluegrass song came on. Hey You, followed by the other songs from The Wall. Sat listening for maybe 20 minutes (burgers came, ate them, still listening) then noticed a guy unlocking the DJ cage and asked him. Yep, Luther Wright and the Wrongs, out of Kingston.

They aren't just playing the same notes with different instrumentation - more like completely different songs with the same chord patterns, same timing and same lyrics - but really good. Highly recommended, even if all you do is click on the Youtube links. They're touring around Ontario now so think I'll try to get out and see them:

Why oh why would anyone do that to such a classic piece of rock/metal. They should be sent to prison for that. If they are that bored they should write their own song .

The guy has a great set of pipes and can really use them - a very appealing voice quality. But, I'm an old man and he loses me when he gets into the screaming at the end. For an old guy, not exactly pleasant to look at either. But, that's just me.
