I went through the first two seasons of Scandal recently based on a friend's recommendation. It was all right. It's guilty of trying too hard a lot, and there's a ton of every character giving passionate speeches to other characters. That gets a little wearying. Despite that, it is overall entertaining. Not one I would recommend to others, but I don't feel like I wasted my time. If nothing else, Kerry Washington has a really good face. It was nice to see her in something since I'd only ever seen her in Django Unchained.

I also watched the first season of The Newsroom since it finally dropped in price. I have a love/hate relationship with Aaron Sorkin's work. I always liked A Few Good Men, have more recently liked The Social Network and Moneyball, but I couldn't get into The West Wing. I know I tried Sports Night way back, but I had trouble getting into that one, too. In any case, I'm liking The Newsroom so far. I don't stay up on the news or politics, so I may be more open than most to the angle of the content. For someone as uninformed as myself, it seems to do a good job of not having an agenda beyond getting people talking and thinking more deeply about the system we find ourselves a part of. Or at least I would do more of that if there weren't other shows to catch up on. I'm part of the problem.

And now I'm finally watching the second season of Homeland. I liked the first season more than I thought I would, so I was getting a little antsy about hearing what happens in season two before being able to watch it myself. Thankfully, I never heard anything, and season two recently dropped in price, so here I go.

I just finished watching the History Channel's "Vikings", season one on blue ray.

Excellent in all respects. I believe it to be historically accurate, but yet still entertaining. Not a show for young children, as it does have violent moments. Excellent story, writing, characters, setting. The video and audio of the disks was very good as well.

After seeing snippets of Thelma & Louise (1991) while channel surfing the other night, I had to rent it as I hadn't seen it in over 20 years. What interested me as much as the story was where it was filmed - much of it around Moab, Utah.

I've been including Moab (was just there again in Sep) in my annual Desert SW road trips for years. It was great to see the locales - Arches NP, Canyonlands NP & Deadhorse Point State Park - that I'm so familiar with & luv so much. I've been under the cliff where they shot 2 Thunderbirds into the canyon below onto the bank of the Colorado River in Dead Horse SP - not The Grand Canyon where the girls thought they were going to meet their end. Launching 2 cars off the cliff was a lot of effort for about a 10 second shot at the movie's end.

Some cool info here to see & read. We picnic up on the cliff where the photo of the Colorado River below was taken. Watch your step, ha! We've also done the dirt road down in the valley that was most interesting & challenging for my CUV - not for the faint of heart - but a great way to spend half a day:

Sound was 5.1 & was really quite good - probably remastered I would think. Nice nostalgic movie in a beautiful part of the world....

Wonderful! What beautiful pictures!

I've always wanted to spend some time in the Southwest. I mean, I've criss-crossed AZ and NV a few times, but never taken time to see the picturesque holes in the ground.

Really seems like a different planet compared to the Pacific Northwest, eh?
