For lotions, I prefer Working Man over Xanadu. Although a little Red Barchetta behind the ears is nice too.

The only problem with Xanadu is that you have to wear roller skates.

Hey, it's better than Roll the Bones. That one just smells really dated.

I received for my birthday the 'Ironman Trilogy' BluRay set.
We watched 1 & 2 last weekend. The soundtrack of #2 was far more dynamic & brutal than #1. It really shook my couch & the video quality in both was superb.
Fun to watch as well...

Just watched the premier of Penney Dreadful on Showtime last night. Wow, I was not expecting it to be this good. If you liked the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but thought it needed better writing, acting and so forth, but really liked the idea, then you’ll love this mini-series. Well, you’ll love the first episode at any rate. Hopefully the following episodes will be equally good.
And if you were thinking about buying the new Hercules, don’t. It sucks horribly. $20 and 1.5 hours of my life wasted.

That's good to know about Penny Dreadful. The promos I saw didn't make me want to watch it, but I was hoping it was one of those where the actual show was better than the ads.
I'm still enjoying Mad Men and Louie.
I've stuck with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I don't really know why. I know other friends who have grown to like it as they got further into the story arc, but it's hard for me to forgive how much of it simply hasn't engaged me. Not that it doesn't have moments, but I had higher expectations. Here's hoping they fumble less in the second season.

We went to the movies to see the latest 'Captain America' in 3-D in Victoria, BC. Thankfully the sound track was not as harsh & brittle sounding as the last 'Star Wars' that we saw a while ago in the same theater.
The movie was enjoyable; however, the over use of firearms in many action movies these days is becoming quite tiresome - at least for me. Ridiculous actually - no wonder there is a gun culture out there.
Again, I'm not sold on 3-D, at least in theaters. In fast moving, acrobatic scenes there seems to be dropped frames. Furthermore, my biggest complaint is that foreground subjects are clearly in focus while anything in the background is nothing but a blur. I don't see that as much in 2-D movies.
On top of that, after 2 hours with the 3-D glasses perched on my snout, I developed a headache that quickly went away while walking to our car.
I look forward to seeing it at home on Blu Ray in 2-D...

I'm typically not a big fan of 3-D either. For most movies it feels like an afterthought. I will say that it worked pretty well in the latest Amazing Spider-Man though. I actually enjoyed the 3-d in that one instead of wishing I had my 3 extra dollars back.

Godzilla
I don't think I ever watched a Godzilla movie all of the way through, but if I did, I was too young to remember. Of course you're always going to be exposed to references to movie icons of this stature, but I'm simply clarifying that I'm not an expert on the material. I enjoyed it. I'll admit I got bored at times, waiting for the next bit of forward momentum, but overall, it seemed fairly creative and decently conceived, and the spectacle of the gargantuan creature didn't disappoint. There's no doubt it's going to be one of the great subwoofer test discs. The theater I went to couldn't keep up with what it was being asked to do. It'll be fun to watch it again at home.
I also watched the fourth and final season of Eastbound & Down over the weekend. If you can stomach Danny McBride and the vulgarity he brings, it's really a unique piece of television. I can't think of any other show with quite the same feel. I'm pretty happy with the writing throughout the whole series, and where they ended up taking it. And I think I said it before, but I have to give a special mention to the music choices. It's a definite part of what makes it feel so different.

I came across a Blu Ray gem at HMV in Victoria last week & just started watching it last night. I've been waiting for one of my favourite movies, 'Gettysburg', to be remastered onto Blu Ray as the last time I saw it was on my VHS Player years ago. This '150th Commemorative Of The Civil War' version comes with a second disc of 'Special Features' plus a wonderful 48 page book that chronicles the history of the battle & the making of the film. Over 5000 Civil War Reenactors were involved so it is a film on a grand scale with thankfully little or no CGI that I could see.
It is over 4 hours long - on 1 disc yet - & I'm about 1.5 hours into it so far. The remastering of this 1993 epic is generally visually excellent & the sound track is awesome when contrasted to what I remember from the VHS version. Cannons & muskets hit with authority & the musical score is superb.
Those who are used to the constant fast pace of the present genre of action flics, might find this one to be slow at times; however, Civil War buffs like me will be thoroughly engaged by this grand film. This fine Blu Ray is a keeper, at least for me...
