@oakvillematt
AA software will not work without the specific hardware added to the PI (DAC, gpios controls etc...) So I think you're out of luck with this one...
However, as promised, we're going to release AA's OS in open source, so you'll be able to give it a look and with some tinkering make it work on stock PI...

Me again! Volume control problem is more serious than it seemed. It happens also when setting "volume normalization" to off (which truly should off by default). When that option is ON, DSF files can't play (getting "error opening audio output". Quite possible happens with other settings.

Oh! And for those interested in how it sounds, it is very good. You need a little bit of exposure to get used to the driver and tweeter orientation, but within an hour it's a thing of the past. Surprisingly strong bass.
Once some of the glitches are out of the way (and there are a lot less than a typical first version of the first software-driven project), it will be an excellent product deserving of its price tag,

This will be very interesting. My ears and brain will have to adjust from a thunderous 7.1 Axiom system in the basement, to an intimate Totem system in my 2.1-channel room to the Air everywhere else.
Eric, do these tweeters have the tapered horns found on the V4 speakers?

Mojo, I don't know. No obvious way to look.

I thought you could partially see the tweeters through the noir screen.

I used a flashlight and could see a bit. Not about your description, but definitely NOT like my other speakers which are V2s and V3s.

Hi Michelangelo,
LESS GOOD: Wired LAN plug is too deep inside the casing. Need a flat tool to get the connector out (to pry the little plastic flap down)
MUCH, MUCH LESS GOOD: Wi-fi interface is too weak for a commercial product. You down have to move far away to have too many obstacle in the way to start getting stuttering and then the box becomes so irresponsive that you need to reboot. At least, this can be resolved by using another USB dungle, one longer or with an antenna.
AxiomAir is now integrated in my home automation system, at least for the playback. Have to figure out volume control soon. I don't understand why the LAN port is on the front at all. If wireless is weak in your home, or if the AA's wireless isn't strong, wired is the way to go, but who wants a wire hanging out the front? Even if you don't have wires ran through your home you could use lan over powerline for like $50 and it'll still be more reliable then wireless....but who wants a cable hanging out the front of this gorgeous thing? major oversight imho. I understand if it's all on the same PCB and it was just easier to stick it all behind one door but....

Eric, it looks like a Kugelwellen horn. Does that help? The v4 tweeter faceplate has this horn profile. I am just curious if that same faceplate was used.
