Help is needed.

My room is an open room (23x10x8) with one open side wall(3x3 window and 7x7 doorwall at the end) and open back wall(3.5x4.5 window in the middle).

Other than speaker upgrade, can I do anything to improve it other than blocking the openings (wouldn't get approval from wife without asking)?

Placement of bookshelf speakers with stands. Should they be placed differently than floorstanding? Currently use cardas method.

I will attach the layout image of the rooms right away. I am wondering if I should put the speakers in the long narrow living room or in the family room where I can integrate with home theater.

The family room is quite open on the right side with 2 windows on the left side. The speakers would be pulled out a lot and possibly block walking which is not wife-children-friendly

Anyways, good news is that it's probably only the small opening making a difference. First thought would be to put a really absorbent panel in the same spot on the opposite wall, which would balance it out to some extent.

Main concerns I see is that the speakers and the seating positions don't align, unless you have a chair that you put in the middle of the room when listening seriously ? I guess you could just hijack a dining room chair...

The family room would make it easier to align speakers & seating but would be even more unbalanced, something like the room I am wrestling with now.

EDIT - sorry, just re-read and realized that the "small opening" is a window not an actual opening, so scratch the "absorption on the other side" idea.

If you stay in the living room, I would try putting the speakers on the long wall on each side of the piano, and make sure you have some kind of absorbent thing hanging on the wall behind the sofa.

For the family room, unless your TV is gigantic I would think about pulling the TV stand out into the room a couple of feet as well to keep it near the speakers and interfere less with walking.

I would try rotated living room first for sure though.

It is an opening 3.5*3.5 in the middle of the left wall.

The living room is quite narrow. I could try the long wall but may not have enough depth.

As for the family room, pull the TV out and put M5HPs on either side.

For the long wall placement, how far away from the wall to place the speakers?

For the family room, pulling out the TV to avoid reflection? How about the open right side to cause the imbalance?

Which speakers do you have ? Depends a bit on how big & bass-heavy the speakers are, front vs rear port etc...

Probably a foot or so away would be sufficient, but you might want to pull out a bit further so the speaker fronts are not behind the front of the piano.

I am talking about M22s.

If they are put in front of the piano, hmm, could be easily kicked down by my daughters
