Nee your help folks.

I just setup a 5.1 system and hanged the surround speakers on the back wall since side wall placement is not wife acceptable.

Question is:

1. Should they be placed at least one or two foot away from wall like the front speakers?
2. Should they just be placed forward or could I toe in and tilt them slightly toward the listening position?

Also base on your experience, is EQ important or just distance/sound level would be enough for calibration?

Thanks for your response.

What sort of speakers were installed on the back wall is very important to the answer you will get. I am to gather that they are not wall mount speakers and are likely direct firing.

What he said smile Direct radiating versus something like the Q series surrounds are very different designs...

Forgot to mention it. They are direct radiating speakers.

Thanks.

Rock, you don't indicate how far back the wall will be from your listening position. If it's just say 2-3', it would be little different than being on the side walls slightly farther back than your ears.

If it's farther back, your might experiment with having the surrounds tilted outward, firing toward the side walls to give some reflected sound as if they were on the side walls.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.
