Basement 7.1.4 setup
New basement setup. Still need to paint the M3 grills/frames and fix the TV wall mount (not quite level).

Thanks for that bman and Charles. If you would be so kind, please remind me what rears you have, Charles. I'm using M5HPs as both side and rear surrounds. Would there be much point in upgrading from M3 to M5HP for surrounds?

Thought I'd share the results I'm getting in Audyssey XT32. My LCR appear to be performing well, but all of my surround and top speakers seem to be challenged below 110Hz or so. This could be attributable to furniture and room geometry, along with the fact that in-ceiling M3's have their driver behind the ceiling plane. https://photos.app.goo.gl/F618X28ebM6UD4bm8

You need to lower your floor to get a lower response from your in-ceiling speakers. Or maybe listen while lying down on the floor. That will give you another 20Hz extension. Of course that will introduce other problems. Aren't rooms fun? The M5HPs will give you greater clarity in the surround channels but I don't know how audible that would be. If you want to hear the difference between the clarity of M5s vs M3s, just put your Denon in multi-channel stereo and walk between say the right M3 and right M5. I think it's better to not know how imperfect a room is. I mean, look at you. You're in the six sigma of room perfection based on your plots but due to a few divots here and there, you're still not totally satisfied.

How does ceiling height affect in-ceiling speaker response frequency? The physics are a bit beyond me.
Definitely nitpicking at this point, but I'm certainly not dissatisfied with how things sound. I just hadn't expected to use crossover values normally reserved for tiny satellites on these mighty M3's

I didn't say you're dissatisfied but rather not totally satisfied. This isn't a criticism. This is a result of curious humans having data and begging for explanations and seeking improvement.
What's the lowest frequency/largest wave you can produce in your bathtub? How about your local swimming pool? Your room isn't much different. Using idealized physics, your room height can support about 80Hz. Factor in real room conditions including not perfectly reflecting floor and ceiling surfaces and absorbent furniture that attenuates energy and that minimum frequency gets pushed higher.
That's why I always say there's nothing like a large room.

That's because ceiling height is roughly half the wavelength of an 80hz wave (429cm)? I'm glad I didn't try to cram this setup into an even smaller room.

I am still wondering if you are hearing depth and width in 2.1 with those in-walls.

What's your go-to song for testing for depth/width?
