I have finally decided to bite the bullet. I sold my 2 16-46 pc+'s and ordered a pb2+ which will be here Thursday. I am getting ready to pick up either a marantz mm9000 or a Rotel RMB1075 amp. My room is 14w x 17L x 8. One side has a half open wall into the dining room. I have a few extra bucks and am wondering if m80's would be overkill in this room. They can only be placed about 7-8 ft apart (15" from back wall) and I will be sitting 12' from them. I am trying to avoid the upgrade bug for a quite a while but if I am not going to benefit from them I don't need to spend the extra money for them. Oh yeah, this will be used for 75% HT, 25% music which will probably change when I hear them in my room. LOL

I don't believe M80s would necessarily be "overkill." But, if you want to save a little dough, I think the M60s would do just fine in your room. I have the M60s in a room that is 11.5 x 18 x 8, with one side half open to a dining room, and they are more than enough. It is generally thought that the M60s and M80s sound very similar, but the 80s go a little lower in frequency response, and can play louder. My M60s are PLENTY loud enough for me.

Ditto to Jack's response. I have the M60s in a room of similar size and they are more than enough to fill that room.

P.S. I don't think the 60s would leave you wishing you had gotten the 80s.

i would only get the 80s if you had a really high ceiling
even then (with this room) i still believe the 60s will be sufficient
as a general rule, i wouldn't buy the 80s unless i had a dedicated amp - IMHO

OTOH, if you're like me you'd always wonder just how good your system would sound if you'd "gone the extra mile". Knowing myself, I knew I'd anguish about this forever, so I went with the 80's!

I am the same way. I have this problem with already wondering what the bigger badder ........ would sound like. I am already wondering if I should have bought the PB2 Ultra instead. Considering I was ready to spend about 1400 on Klipsch's new RF35 system this doesn't seem like too bad of a deal. I just didn't want to buy it and have it sound worse than the M60's would have because I don't have the ideal placement for them.

did you ask SVS whether a PB2+ would out-gun a pair of 16-46 PC+es?

Yes. Out gun isn't exactly how they would describe it. 95% of all LFE is centered around 25 hz and up. Below 20 hz I would be giving up a few spl to the 16-46's but in most of the normal material the PB2+ would easily outdo the 16's. I ended up getting rid of the 16's more for the WAF than anything else. The room they are in is 2800 cubic feet so neither one will be pushed to it's limits.

Or how the pair of 16-46's compare to a pair of PC-Ultra's?
