Updating Surrounds to OWM5!

Its been a few weeks living with the OWM5 in my theater that doubles as our demo room for clients. Slowly swapping in Axiom items...

Anywho. What an upgrade! We went from a great setup of wall mounted bookshelf speakers as side surrounds and tower speakers for rears. This setup sounded fantastic, but boy was it clunky looking. I ended up selling them off to a happy coworker. Cheers Justin!

The new M5OWs sound full range and didn't really give anything up to the larger speakers that just left.

I found some French cleat brackets to invert the install as mentioned in another thread. After listening to them this way I'm not sure it would have made a huge difference with surround material. But... technically it is the best orientation considering vertical response.

So, How do they look? Fantastic! Walnut with Nutmeg stain really looks sharp and matches the other items we stained in the room.

How do they sound? Utterly Fantastic! Like a ballet slipper draped over a sledgehammer! These can both sooth and startle. -Like a nurse with a bonesaw held behind her back.

What a result. Thanks, Axiom!!!!!

Was trying to give a descriptor that wasn’t the typical gushy review prose. laugh

No veils were lifted from faces. No chocolatey mids were eaten. Spouse didnt drop book on floor and wander into room amazed. Lol.

Gottal tell ya, I will be definitely pushing on-walls for installs. Great looks and not cutting drywall sure is cleaner in a finished home. Fast install.

Yup, I was amazed at the non-trade off in sound. The biggest trade off is supposedly not being able to dial them in. Since I have not really listened to an on-wall on an FMB even that is not certain. In-walls have not impressed me half as much.

I used these. I drilled an extra hole in the cleat for back of each speaker. I did not use supplied screws and wall anchors. smile Here is what I used. Proceed at own risk etc.

These 6” aluminum French cleats

I used these 3/4” x 8 particle board screws. Pre drill carefully before driving screws with screwdriver.

I used these 75lb wall easy anchors for wall cleats. Dont use a dril. Strips drywall.

Thanks Trevor!
Materials have been ordered.
At what height would you recommend the centre of the tweeter? ear height or a couple of inches above or below ear height.

Yep. Just above switch height and below a window frame in my basement. Ended up 52”.

Perfect world 48”.
