Adrien, I'd suggest that you not consider the 750 and instead go with the 1400. Contrary to some misimpressions, the 750 does not have the full YPAO and doesn't provide for automatic equalization(a substantial loss in my view). A careful reading of the literature, including between the lines, is necessary to determine this(owners manuals are comparable to the tax code in this regard).
As to power and distortion ratings, they can pretty much be disregarded. Bear in mind that at comfortably loud listening levels the speakers will use 1-2 watts. On brief peaks 50 or 100 watts may be used, very rarely more except in very large rooms. Audibility of THD varies with the type of program material, but generally has to be over 1.0% to be audible on music; here's Yamaha's explanation. The rated figures are far below audibility.

Greetings,
I have noticed that Yamaha has the htr 5790 listed on their website. This is the htr version of the rx-v1400, which is designed for their mass market distribution. Unfortunately, no authorized dealers seem to have it in stock, and I received an email from Yamaha that basically said they had no idea when it would ship. Does anyone have any other info on this model, or know a good authorized dealer for the 1400? I would rather not pay MSRP, however...

I am having the same debate myself. I am waiting to A/B the two models when my local dealers start receiving stock on the 750 - we are always a few months behind on the new models here in Canada.
I realize that this in itself doesn't guarantee better sound quality, but I think it's important to note that the weight of the the RX-V750 is 27.8 pounds versus the 34.2 pounds of the RX-V1400.

My two pennies is simply, I love my RX-V1400. Lots of bells and whistles, for not a lot of bucks. It really is the best bang for the buck on the market today. Mmmmm video upconversion... arrrggggg...
We wouldn't be laughing that evening when Grandpa came back with some whore he picked up in town.

Well - I ended up going with the RX-V750 over the 1400... I was never really that interested in the 2400. The 2400 was a couple of hundred bucks (US) more than the 1400, for about 10 watts more per channel, as far as I can tell...
In the same vein, the 750 seemed to have just as many features (more DSPs, if that really matters), component up conversion, plenty of digital inputs, YPAO, DLPIIx (no worrying about getting an older 2003 version of the 1400 w/o IIx on e-Bay), and 100 watts/ch.
All in all, I hope that this was the correct choice. I'll let you guys know when I get it all set up, which should be getting on 9 weeks from now.
Anyway, I had a question in the interim...
(1) A poster mentioned the weight difference between the 750 and the 1400. Anyone care to comment on why the weight is a big issue?

I know that in the world of electric motors, more weight = more turns of copper = more power. Now, that's motors...I would think though that it reflects some information on overall build quality (more metal, less plastic) and also on heatsink size, which clues you in to how much power the thing is expecting to devour by getting a look at how much heat it will need to dissipate.

Adrien, note that as I previously commented, the 750 does not have the full YPAO and lacks equalization.

John - can you explain what you mean by not having "ful YPAO" or equalization? I have some idea what that means, but would like to learn more.
Thanks.

Yes, again as I commented before, it requires a careful reading, but that shows that the 750 has only a partial YPAO(which probably shouldn't even be termed YPAO, since the missing capability renders it misleading)which calibrates speaker levels and distances. There is no provision for the automatic equalization of frequency response to compensate for room irregularities(only a partial compensation is possible, but it's a worthwhile step)which is the main advance in Pioneer Elite's MCACC, Yamaha's YPAO and the similar system in the new Denon 3805 and 2805(apparently Denon was unable to come up with an acronym).
I should add this Yamaha explanation.

Yes, John...now I see...
I wish that I understood (even though you tried to tell me) before I dove in...
But, I'm actually Ok with this. Alan doesn't swear by the YPAO, and even thinks that it may "color" the speakers. And Axioms are fairly balanced, so maybe the effect would have been minimal.
In any event - the last piece is in place, and now it is just a waiting game. I'm gonna have to get busy at the office to distract myself.
