I noticed that my VP 150 has been making very loud popping sounds in action scenes like LOTR. I have tried bumping up the bass management to 100 Hz (small) with no luck.
It sounds like 2 of the three woofers are doing this.
I've had the unit for 5 months without problems, however I have not pushed my system untill I tried LOTR Return of the King until last week. This is when the problem showed up.
I checked every setting twice.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, have you tried temporarily connecting one of your main speakers as the center to see if the same problem exists?

I tried that and didn't have any problems (it's getting late here,so I'll have to try it with some volume tommorow.). I also have a spare Klipsch center that I temporarily used without any problems.
The VP150 acts like it has a bad crossover. It acts like it's allowing lower frequencys to pass through causing distortion/popping. But that doesn't make sence either since I'm crossed over at 80 Hz or higher... Strange.
Thanks,
Tom

please update this post with any results you may find. i also experienced some 'popping' from the VP150 woofers a few days ago when listening to some heavy guitar music turned up very loud. i got very concerned, and almost upset that the speaker seemed to be struggling under the load, but later realized that i had the receiver set to the neo6 mode, which directs more of the sound source to the center channel. once i realized that, it made since that the poor 150 was 'cracking' under the pressure. i have since run similar high volumes with the receiver set to 'all channel' and did not have any probs from the 150.

I just replaced all three woofers. And what a huge difference! It sounds great. I popped in LOTR ROTK and didn't hear any of the popping or rattling.
Axiom had a batch of drivers that had longer than normal leads going to the coil. This caused the cone to actually make contact with the leads. Thats what made the horrible sound.
Everything is better than before now. I am very impressed with Axiom's customer service. I can't wait for the M80's...

Hmm, I have not hand any trouble with my center, but is there any way of knowing if this will be an issue if I drive it hard? I'm in a small studio so rarely push the speaker hard, but i would hate to experience this when I move into a large place and really crank the sound up.
Does axiom know which speakers those drivers are most likely to have gone into? When did you buy your center?

I'm not sure if Axiom has "code or lot number" to identify these drivers. It's actually happend to me twice now! Once with my QS8's and now with the center channel.
I purchased them at the same time last Feburary.
I didn't drive them hard in the past, LOTR ROTK has a the ability to expose flaws in loudspeakers. I have a set of Klipsch KG 4.2's that the passive driver actually came unglued from the spider and cone. The glue was brittle. (good excuse to upgrade).

well, if the ROTK can show flaws, then i am gonna test mine this weekend. i finally got around to watching the 2nd in the series(two towers), and just have the last one left. probably gonna watch it sunday afternoon.. i also have 'the last samurai' that i havent watched yet, so i might try and squeeze that in also.
i did watch a movie this week called 'the cell'. it came out a few years ago with jennifer lopez and vince vaughn. it was a very dark, disturbing movie, and i didnt think it was that good.. but , i will say, that the director did have a remarkable eye for color, and visual design. any of you with HD, plasma, or DPL's(anything with a great, clear picture) might wanna rent this one on its visual imagery alone. but just make sure the kids are in bed.. the movie is rather graphic and disturbing.

The Cell is the only "Lopez" movie I've liked. Vince Vaughn and Vincent D'onofrio combined with the "eye candy" factor makes this movie well worth watching. IMO, the plot wasn't as bad as some critics say. Your right about the "visual imagery" of this movie. Great eye candy factor and It looks fantastic on my 61" DPL.

It was an OK movie, IMO. I saw it quite a while ago, and I think I may have been drinking that night.
Parts of it were filmed at a local high school where I very briefly coached football. High tech, industrial looking school, all concrete and glass. Also used in the movies Orange County. Just some useless trivia.
