Blackfield - (self-titled) I just got this album this week, 3 weeks before the U.S. release. I must say that it's an immediate hit. My only critique would be that it's only 36 min. Sorry I'm not use to such short song lengths. If I could here music THIS good, then I might consider listening to the radio. [/end rant] Anyway, for those of you familiar with Porcupine Tree, especially their more mellow songs, you'll love Blackfield. Blackfield is a side project Steven Wilson's with Aviv Geffen (from Israel) and as I said it's mellower and with a rather dark tinge. Incredibly well written songs. As good as it sounds in stereo on the Axioms, I really wish they could make a DVD-A or SACD of this one like they did with In Absentia. The production of this one is just SO absorbing and dreamlike. Well thought I'd pass on the word on this one. Here's their site with clips to all the tracks and a couple full-length videos.
Blackfield
Enjoy!!

Hey Mark, I'm curious, aside from In Absentia, what other PT albums do you own?

There's samples of the entire cd on the site I linked to. If you're wanting to hear some entire Porcupine Tree songs just head over to http://www.porcupinetree.com and enjoy.

This list may not be all inclusive...
Stupid Dream
Staircase Infinity
Up the Downstair
The Sky Moves Sideways
Lightbulb Sun
Voyage 34
Signify
Metanoia
Recordings
Stars Die
I like most of them, and love a lot of them, especially Sky Moves Sideways, Up the Downstair, and Stupid Dream.

BTW, I preordered that Blackfield CD on Amazon. I'll let you know what I think.

NICE collection...and I see you have Recordings *GRUMBLE! GRUMBLE! GRUMBLE!* I should have bought that one when I had the chance. Now it goes for as high as $70 on ebay. Come to think of it, Blackfield has a touch of the same mood that's in Recordings. I think you'll really enjoy this one.
BTW a WHILE back I mentioned the band Spock's Beard to you and you mentioned that you ordered "V". What did you think of those guys? Just wondering. Oh and just so you know (and you might already) new PT album Jan. 5. What a way to start the new year and Steven Wilson mentioned that there will also be a surround mix made.

The "Spock's Beard" hasn't really hasn't grabbed me yet, but it probably needs a few more listens. I've also been listening to some "Dream Theater". Ne PT album Jan 5? I'm there, dude.

+1 here for Dream Theater. I wish I could have see Dream Theater when Porcupine Tree opened for them. I can't think of a better combination.
