OK, here's an odd question. Now that I have a center speaker (M2i) wired up I was going through the "2 channel content" surround modes (PLII, Logic7, Neo6 etc..). Last time I tried Logic7 Music (before adding the center speaker) that mode seemed to feed way too much content to the left main, while all the other Logic7 modes seemed fine.

I can't imagine the processing was designed this way (unless some guy at HK had the balance control set to the right when they were fine-tuning the DSP code) but it also doesn't seem like a defect. There could be a few bad bits in the ROM, I guess, but it seems extraordinarily unlikely.

Any ideas ?

When I had my HK 525, I didn't have that problem, but I also didn't listen to two channel music much in Logic7.

I'll try it out on my 525 later today.

Nope, not happening here, even with the center through the TV turned on.

Bridgman - do you maybe have the left main level up a bit higher than the right, after going through with the SPL meter?

Could be that it needs a bit of a pump-up for direct decoding (DTS, Dolby Digital) but the surround DSP effect reacts differently.

630 here... does it happen on more than just one type of music? different media?

Good idea -- I just checked the mains and they are definitely both set to 0dB. I did notice something interesting though -- when I switch to "Surround Off" with an analog source the lead instruments were often slightly left of center.

One possible explanation is that Logic7 Music emphasizes any "off centeredness" while Neo6 seems to push everything towards the center a bit and PLII Music seems to largely leave everything alone.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Guess I have to do some more testing and see if there is a correlation between slightly off center source and very off center Logic7 Music presentation. Will let you know... but not tonight

Bridg - might want to check the interconnects on the analog source... may have snapped some (like half) of the strands in the right side cable, or some other problem like that.

One anoying thing my HK630 seems to do is loose the settings I painstaking put in for each channels db level. I can set it for say Video2, Logic7:CIN and it will be fine for a random amount of time then suddenly they will all be set back to zero. Frustrating.

Then there is something wrong. Do you power off the 630 or put it in standby when not in use?

One of the nice things I liked about my HK 525 was the ability to set different speakers levels according to processing mode.
