This probably all comes out of (it's either Dolby labs or THX) who suggest to take the 7th channel and put it out of phase.

I just ordered a 7.1 receiver, Marantz SR 7400. Am I supposed to assume that the preferred set up is 4 QS4/8's on side and back walls as opposed to Qs4/8's on side and direct radiating in back?

Actually, I think the preferred setup is quadpolar on the sides and direct in the back, but it's really a matter of personal taste. Of course, M2s are cheaper than QS4s or 8s...

I think it depends on your listening/viewing tastes. If your usage is heavily weighted toward DVDs (movies) and standard (redbook) CDs, then 4 QS series speakers would be my suggestion. If you're really into DVD-A and SACD, then having the direct radiators in the rear is preferable. If you're crazy about both, you have a decision to make.

Since I have the M60's and VP150 on order, I will wait until they arrive, do my comparison test and if I prefer the Axioms, will order 2 QS4's to replace the BP1s, do a sound test when they arrive before putting my Def Techs on e-bay.
