Thanks guys, seems like everyone's had the same concerns at one point or the other...I do share TWO walls and a floor with neighbours so I'm flanked on all sides.
Even with the m60s I can feel the floor vibrate so I shudder to think what an HSU or rava would do....but I'm at the point where I'm craving the meat in my music!
Has anyone had the opportunity to compare side by side a sidefiring and downfiring sub tho' and how it affects the listening/FEELING experience?

My EP175 is side-firing, the STF-2 is downward firing. The EP175 simply doesn't have the same extension, so I don't know if it's a fair comparison. But the STF-2 definitely shakes the house more.
Didn't the VTF-3s used to be side-firing? Seems like there was someone on this board who had a regular VTF-3 and then swapped to a rosewood VTF-3 MK 2. That would be an interesting comparison.
