I *almost* bit on the receiver. I am looking for something to power my bass shakers. I was going to go with a plate amp, but I like the clean look of a component such as a receiver, and since they are just bass shakers, a simple 2 channel will even work. No need for the other channels. I am sure that someone has a sub-$100 no frills receiver. I'll just have to wait...
